Description I grabbed this from the WIP pile of 2007 (a mightly large stack) and while it could probably use something more, at this point I am putting this up to let people know my hands still work.

It is of jazz artist Yusef Lateef. As usual, I am attracted to the unusual, and Lateef fits. He is typically known for his rich tenor sax and intense flute work, but he is also a fan of various corners of jazz esoterica, including the only use of oboe as a jazz solo instrument I have ever heard. He mixes Middle Eastern conventions with Western approaches and the result is often a polyrhythmic, ponytonal stew of interesting stuff. I am partial to his albums Eastern Sounds, and The Centaur & The Phoenix (which had a still in high-school Kenny Barron on piano).

Very rich and emotional and... human. I want to know what he's thinking about, rather than treat it like a work of art, which is a sign that you've done your job here.

The short answer is "yes" as long as:

1. attribution is given
2. I get to see what you produce (my curiosity is boundless)

Wow. I've never been able to pull off the loose style when drawing, and have always been fascinated with it, because it brings the drawing together so greatly, adding character... i can never get it to look like the photo though.. oh well.

Your description is interesting, I think i'll go find some of his music.

Very nice as it is. A touch of warmer colour would liven it up I guess, and the background invites all manner of treatments, but still lovely without those additions.

most intgriguing. i'd be interested in hearing that oboe track. does it show up on those albums you mentioned?

i like this sketch. it's rough, but it captures a mood and motion. also i like the colors.
