Description Here's a glimpse at how I work. It's kind of a basic "how i work" kind of thing rather than a tutorial, but hopefully some people will find it helpful at least in terms of working digitally.
This was fun to make, hope to upload more tutorial-type stuff. I'm an open book when it comes to technique so any questions or tutorial suggestions or whatever are welcome.

Thank you so much! It helps to have a strong gesture sketch to start with. Rendering is just icing on the cake.

Everyone has their own process, there's no pressure.  Markers? Markers are as legit a medium as any other.  Ever seen the art of Bleach book "All Colors But The Black" ?  Check it out, it's pretty much all marker work, and it's gorgeous, I think you'd like it.  What kind of markers do you use?

Prismacolor? Faber-Castell? Copic? Crayola? Sharpie? My arsenal is mostly Prismacolors and Faber-Castell.

(Copics are gorgeous but out of my price range -_-u...) I also use a lot of colored pencil and ballpoint pen with my marker work.  Occasionally acrylic paint.

They're a legit medium, but I'm not using them to their full potential most of the time. I F*CKING LOVE THAT BOOK.

My Marker arsenal (and it's an arsenal) is about 90% Prismacolor, 8% Copic (There was a sale) and 2% some color pens made by micron ages ago.
There's also a color pencil arsenal, a pen-and-ink arsenal, a graphite/carbon/charcoal arsenal and a watercolor munitions box.  I don't really like water color.
The rule for keeping my studio in some form of order is that I can't have more of any single medium than fits in a box I can lift with one arm. I have Hit capacity with markers and color pencil, but still have room in the other three.

You're welcome! Same here! Yeah, that too, I love seeing how different folks work, seeing what works and what doesn't, especially if their tutorial is on a subject I haven't mastered yet.

I would try this, but I can't draw things with a mouse. I do the sketch on paper, scan it, and then do the most basic coloring on GIMP.

ZetsubouZed In reply to AngelAxexinf [2013-10-09 05:02:14 +0000 UTC]

There's no shame in scanning work - some of the best stuff I've seen here is traditional.  If you're not confident about basic coloring, either do it traditionally before scanning or invest in a decent tablet.  Find a painting program like Photoshop that has layers so you can color it without potentially ruining the original piece.

The only reason I don't color in with colored pencil is because the scanner brightens every single stroke, so it comes out a bit odd ^^". But, I'm getting better at the whole "digital art" thing.
