Here's my process to for my Tron jam [link]

1. I start images with a middle gray background a lot. Because I don't like to leave any white background if I miss a spot while painting.

2. Cloud brush.

3. Special buildings brush. Just throwing forms down.

4. Darker buildings to show they're closer to the foreground.

5. I establish where the horizon is more or less and add some lights to the buildings so they look more like buildings.

6. Spotlights and flying vehicles.

7. I add a reflection to give the ground kindof a glass look. And I add some stars high up in the sky away from the light pollution.

8. I tilt the camera to make it more of a dramatic shot and I add a grid to the ground. I use an overlay layer and change it to a more blueish look for that Tron-y feel.

9. Interior of some tron vehicle

10. I thought I'd make it a chase scene chasing one of the bad guy's speedbikes.

11. I change my mind about the vehicle interior and change it to a good guy bike chasing a bad guy bike. From here I cropped and just made some adjustments to get the final image.
