Sonic's story starts at a young age, back when he was known as Maurice. Maurice lived in a village right outside of the Green Hill forest with his parents, Jules and Bernadette, his siblings, Manny and Sonya, and his Uncle Chuck. Maurice was the slowest running kid and tended to be late to everything he went to. One day he was playing in the local caves with his siblings and fell into a cavern. In the cavern, Maurice discovered a green glowing emerald and when he touched it, he was covered by a white light. Maurice awoke later to find the emerald gone and that he was faster than before, a lot faster, maybe the fastest thing alive and he was releasing electricity from his body. Maurice ran all the way back to his village and showed everyone his new speed and they were all amazed.
On the other side of the world, Dr. Robotnik was looking for the Chaos Emeralds and had satellites searching for chaos energy around the world and sensors were detecting a massive amount in Maurice's village. Robotnik headed to this new target to get his emerald.
Days later, Robotnik's robots arrived at the village and started destroying it in pursuit of the Chaos Emerald. Maurice managed to stop some of them but he was mistaken for a chaos emerald because of his energy and was bubbled and sent to be taken back to Eggman. He flew for hours before he managed to bust out and run back to his village. All he found back there were burnt houses and no one else around. He searched everywhere but could find no one. Maurice lost all hope of finding anyone and fell to the ground and cried. Maurice wouldn't be on his own for long as an owl, Claa, came from the sky and found the little hedgehog and comforted him. The next day, Maurice showed off his speed and power with collecting nuts and berries for breakfast and getting detected by Robotnik's sensors again. Maurice and Claa ran away and it was found that the bots were after the hedgehog. Maurice lost the bots and took off with Claa to a new place. Claa told Maurice that he had a power in him that others would come after him for, so he needs to hide from the world.

Maurice was cared for by Claa and trained him to control his power. She would also try to get Maurice to control his electric outbursts, which seemed to come out when he became distressed at remembering his old life. To fight this, Maurice was told to suppress his feelings by focusing on "running past the pain." In the 10 years to follow, Maurice would take this advice and try to forget what he lost and he even took a new name, Sonic. One day, Sonic took off outside of his secluded forest to save some animals from a new type of robot seen in the area, Badniks. These robots had a limited charge but when they captured an animal, they could run on its bio-electricity and continue for as long as the animal inside was still alive. This rescue got Sonic on Robotnik's radar again and he sent 10 mechs to retrieve the superpowered hedgehog. The bots attacked Claa and Sonic's home and Claa sent Sonic away with something she was saving for a troubling situation, a Golden Portal Ring. Sonic was in sent to Green Hills in an instant and by the time he returned to his new home, he found it in flames and Claa gone. Sonic was once again alone and he ran again, hoping to once again outrun his pain. What Sonic didn't know was that this event would send him off on an adventure that would bring him together with a fox, echidna, and pink hedgehog and have him finally face the madman who took everything from him.

For his redesigned look, I wanted Sonic to have some practical and newly designed items on him. Here, Sonic is a bit more fuzzier than his original self just to give less of a smooth look and bit more of a wild one.

Goggles - It would make sense that Sonic might have these for cases when he's in an environment that might interfere with his sight like running through rain, sand storms, and even running on the ocean where salt water might get in his eyes from running on it.

Scarf - This was carried over from Sonic Boom and I see it being like the goggles to sometimes be used to block out anything that could fly right Sonic's mouth like bugs and it could be used to help breathing in tough cases like running in smoke and sand storms.

Shorts - I was just tired of Sonic being naked and wanted to change it up for this case. I gave him some running shorts that are a few shades of a darker blue so that the shorts wouldn't feel so out of place as any other color.

Watch - This was made by Tails and includes a worldwide GPS so that Sonic could find out where he is at any part of the world and it can react to Sonic's speed and find a fast route when it comes to Sonic going from continent to continent.

Shoes - I redesigned that shoes to look more like typical running shoes but still close to what they looked like before and they even sport a gold ring logo that glows when Sonic collects rings.
