This one is great!
I love the HUGE amount of detail in and out, the only thing that bugged me is that there's a big black pipe on his back, and it's trespassed be smaller pipes (the only bug I found)
Really well done! I hope to see mor work with this quality (though I prefer a traditional render with textures and stuff...)

yea... i didn't even know it till i made this render... coz the pipe is not black in really... its the vector render made it look like this...

Can I ask a question? When you render out a cel-shaded image and import into Flash, can you actually manipulate the vectors? By this I mean, is vector information actually exported from Maya? Or is it pretty much an JPEG?

when u render out of any aplication, you get an image. jpeg or whatever is avalaible. whatever you set it to render as. can be other formats you know. but i am sure i understand what you mean by vector information....

Oh, I thought there was an option where you could export each frame, and the vector information of the line could be manipulated in Flash later...like Flash would recognise something as a line, or a block of colour, instead of just an image. Am I wrong?

zoomzoom In reply to boiled-egg [2007-01-03 20:09:17 +0000 UTC]
each frame becomes an image. that's what rendering is! It's the process of generating an image from a model. if its animation its a group of images showen one after another.

lol buddy...I have a ridiculous amount of 3D Software experience, ok? But I heard that you can export cel shaded imagery out of Maya as blocks of colour and line made out of vectors, instead of pixels like JPegs. I thought you might have known, obviously not. Sorry for wasting your time.

Dude! There are over 20 different file formats you can export as from Maya. I donβt know them all. Nobody doesβ¦ Moreoverβ¦ to answer your question a person should also be familiar with Flash and I am really not an expert in that area, but YOU with your so called βridiculousβ amount of experience surely must have all the answers...

thats really great stuff brow!
This is the robot who apears in robocop II?
I like how it looks, looks like something drawn in flash..

its made in maya and the vector rendered with geometry outline.. made it look like flash tricky ticky... and yes. this is Cain. from robocop2.... inside and out...

I thought it was made in swift3D, since it also exports with vectors

Hey Zoom, this shit it's great, i love this piece of metal so much. i'm a great fan of Robocop.
ΒΏWhere do you find the references for RoboCain?
Anyway, great work mate XD

Thanks...
Everyone asks me that question... and answer is simple. Movie was my only reference. Plus a little bit of imagination for the darker, hard to see places... I watched a lot of scenes 20-30 times, big use of "pause" button... i think research took longer then modeling...

nice details mate! im impressed.if you extend the loop so the camera ends when the screen of the head filling your whole screen nice intro for a website or interactive demo

That's just positively AMAZING... the details blow me away. Completely.
Granted, I'm not a robot/mechanical objects fan, but dang. This is fabulous.
This must've taken you a looong time, eh? This is just incredible!
This is really excellent work. Great job!

a few pictures in different angles would be much more efficient at showing the whole model. The time it takes to load, and the railroading of the eye so much is just exceedingly frustrating. If you really wanna make something animated, just make a 360 turntable that last 2 seconds and loops with still frame close-ups of the important details.
Also, it's awesome, but it can't rotate it's torso, and a single baseball hit on those unprotected waist hydrolics will make gravity do the rest of the work since it's exceedingly top-heavy.
The following is only important if you intend of using the vectorial shader for it's final render: you need to work more on the softening/hardening edges normals to make a more interesting (and less buggy) outline in some areas, especially on the fingers (which are too crowded) and that armor plate marked with a "X" (which I suppose was made with a boolean) because it's edges randomly pops-up. Making a good outlined object takes so long and it looks silly (and seems incredibly soft to the touch) once rendered in normal rendering.

Is it not faster to render and animate that compared to full texture and shadows 3d?
π: 0 β©: 1
zoomzoom In reply to thesuper [2006-11-08 07:00:36 +0000 UTC]
Rendering and animation are two different processes... but yes. Rendering in vector is faster then rendering in metal ray, but about the same when rendering in Maya software render... not sure about hardware thought... I don't really mess with that...

Yeah this is great. Love the way you animated it. Was kinda hoping you were going to play with something else on the screen. Like when it got to the close up of the screen perhaps it zoomed in and showed a full shot of the model again or something. Anyways, great model!

i have another render with this robot that shows the screen coming out and then it does a close up on the chest and that drug mechanism that i have modeled as well...
i will submit it before the end of the year...
