Description
This is a recreation of a famous M.C.Escher painting called "Relativity". Unlike a painting itβs 3-Dimensional. Modeled, textured and lighted in Maya 5. It almost identical except for some minor details that could not be there coz the model was build using only NURBS... and there are limits with them. No polygons in this model all. Here is a LINK to the original painting/
This is my first shading and lighting project in Maya.
Right now I am adding little characters and other small details. Will submit result shortly.
Comments are welcome.

I like how you created an outside. I always felt there should have been more than just the one room..

This is genius stuff here! I really appreciate this piece after doing the Escher drawing in POD this past month! Keep it rocking man...great job! I really can't believe I haven't seen this one in your gallery before and it's been here for 5 years!

Really good, the tree and the garden on the right side seem a bit flat, but other than that it's brilliant. I had the same problem when I did my photocolage, since I had to put it together without 3d. Greetings

that work is about 4 years old... and its in NURBs vs polygons. harder modeling tool...
I actually started a full animation of this scene with all 16 characters... i am about %80 complete...

what format is it in? if you can make it flash, it won't need to be downloaded and just play in fullview like mine do...

max13124 In reply to zoomzoom [2007-01-25 03:43:52 +0000 UTC]
it's a windows media player (*.wmv) file 250 MB. i will probably try to re-render the animation as a flash file if i cant change it over from what it is now.
thanks for the tip

Holy shit! forget about it if its that big... I don't think u be able to upload it in any format in this size and even if you do admins are gonna tell you to take it off... its way too big. my biggest one so far is 15MB... what u can do is re-render it using smaller resolution and then take into flash... even if you host it on your own server nobody will have enough patience to wait for 250MB to download even with the fastest connection... leave that stuff for demo reels... for online stick to basic low res renders.

I like it, but the bumpmapping is way overdone and the texturing is pretty static. The lighting needs some work too in my opinion. It's like it had to be lit in 30 seconds.
But I like the idea of working with 3 photo's and they're pretty good implanted to the image. The modelling is really good also.

I have done a similar sketch before but nothing this great. Very nice. I know the painting you are talking about. It even made an appearance in a Family Guy episode and Stewie decided to call it 'Crazy Stairs'. Yours is equally cool to the original.

well... its not a sketch.. its a 3D model.. that means that i can be viewed from any angle and animated. and i am... animating it right now... just takes a while coz i am jumping from project to project...

Very cool. Interesting to see his work in 3D, gives it a new dimension. (Hopefully you'll forgive the bad pun...) The bricks look good overall, but a little odd in places where you have just the texture and not the brick outlines. That could just be me though, and don't get me wrong, I think it kicks ass. Can't wait to see more.

zoomzoom In reply to AshesSmashes [2005-03-24 16:53:04 +0000 UTC]
Thanks.... I will was planning to do the water falls, but that one is actually impossible coz that one is a trick of an eye. The bricks had bump maps on them... so maybe this is the reason they create effect that you are talking about... not sure.
So thanks for the Kick ass comment...
Very inspirational.
