Belle was no stranger to these tools. She had watched her father use them a dozen times over as a child and he had even taught her how to use them once she was old enough. Needless to say, she knew what she was doing. She carefully picked up the music box and peered inside. Something was misaligned. Upon close unspection, she noticed that an obstruction was blocking the figurines inside from dancing. The clenchers would have only made it worse...but perhaps if she turned it upsidedown and used the mallet, all it would take was one gentle tap in the right place. That was exactly what Belle gave it. Three gentle taps and out came the blockage. A little nut had wedged its way into the gears. How it could've gotten there was beyond her, but the only way to see if her unorthadox method had worked was to try it out. She took the discarded windup key on the table, inserted it into the lock and turned it slowly. The doors to the windmill music box opened and there inside was a family of figures twirling about to the most beautiful song. It may not have been the way her father might have done it, but Belle took pride in knowing that she had her own way with tools. She owed it to her papa to teach her to think outside the box.

In case it wasn't obvious, yes. This was heavily inspired by the new Beauty and the Beast. As per usual, I like blending the old with the new. And in this case I really liked the idea of Belle being an inventor too, so I drew her in her father's gear and gave her dress a few accessories.
I had actually hoped to draw this before the movie came out, but now that it has, I had a lot more fun making this while listening to the soundtrack.
This is just the first of MANY drawings to be focused on Belle. Not in her new garb every time, perhaps, but I'll be experimenting with this look a lot more often.

Before you ask, no, I don't know good a dog-legged clencher would do on a music box either. AND YES I REALIZE SHE'S HOLDING IT UPSIDEDOWN!
