Description Edit: Fixed a few things. Feel free to tell if something still looks wonky. May take a while to update.

Anyhoo, it's Khran being angsty about his disfigurement(s) in the manner of 'Would you love a monsterman?' [/Lordi]
He can't really do anything to those fingernails either. Scissors would break up.

The Curse of Rha-kan'Ocka belongs to me.

i know, its a bit of a shame sometimes coz u might have come up with a creation completely on ur own and people still stay that ur copying something that is already in the world somewhere.
i think thats why all the films have suddenly turned crap.

The only things that really throw me are how ZOMG HUGE his upper arm is, and that his head/face seems like it should be a bit larger, given how much bigger he is than Hiid. x) It sounds like you've established non-human proportions for your elves, though, so I'm not sure if that's the desired effect or not.

In any case, I love your characters. Bwah! x)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

zorm In reply to Keleri [2007-04-03 22:57:53 +0000 UTC]

Khran's proportions are entirely purposeful. I remember I just explained this somewhere, but the bodies of his kin are often disproportionately large compared to the heads (I think Khran's height was something like 10-11 heads whereas the standard human proportion is 8), and they are also much broader due to thicker and sturdier bone structure. The wonky genetics commonly give men horrible upper arms like that. XD But to balance it out, the females aren't that dainty either, and are on average two meters tall.

Thanks anyway, I try to keep the proportions in better scales when I draw plain non-supervillain/hero human characters.

Something about Hiid's face just seems...off. The rest of the picture is fan-freakin'-tastic, and I would be surprised if it wasn't, but yeah. The proportions are amazing. It's kind of weird to see this tiny lil girlie and some GIANT BLUE DUDE grabbing onto her.

You know what they say about guys with big hands right?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

zorm In reply to Ribbons-and-Bells [2007-04-03 21:35:28 +0000 UTC]

Okies, I tried to fix her face. May take a while to update, DA is often slow with these things. If it still looks wonky, I'm not sure what to do.

Just trying to stay in canon with the proportions here, as I've several times mentioned in the writing that some of the elvish men had thicker arms than Hiid's whole body. XDD

Oh indeed, men that have big hands need big gloves. And the whole lineage of Khran's biological father is famous for having big hands. xD

Thanks!

Maybe I don't exactly get what you've done, but I like it. The skin gets some kind of semi-transparentness, which adds in the realism. By which I mean I wouldn't be too surprised if I saw them walking down the streets.
Oh, and the expressions are wonderful, too.
But I do want to mention that it doesn't really looks like he's touching her... I don't know, even though you've added shadow on her skin, it seems like somethings missing...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

zorm In reply to konijnemans [2007-04-03 21:49:29 +0000 UTC]

I tried to add some more shading to where his right hand touches her. The left is only skimming, so it doesn't leave 'fingermarks'. Hope it looks better now. May take a moment to update, though.

Well, one major alteration in the technique is that I've started adding some extra outlining esp. to the lighter areas and changed some shading colors. I f. ex. used to shadow Hiid's skin mostly with bluish tones, but now I use green and dirty browns.

If Khran walked down the street, I think people'd call the very least the army forces for help. XD

Thanks!

I did in fact once draw a bishie Khran as a joke, and one of my friends a chibi one, but the other major stereotypes excluding the pirate have been left out as of yet. XD If he became a goth, he'd spare some money since he wouldn't need to buy any black eyeliner, what with having those overly heavy lashes already. XD

I love the textures in this, on the skin and the background. The wood is amazing (especially the pattern on the floor ), and I really like the lighting here too. Another lovely piece from you.

The blurriness sickness isn't because of me, is it?

Naw, several people have mentioned about the blurriness. I just started thinking whether I could do better. See, this is why I like critique because it makes me want to improve. XD I may not instantly notice what's wrong, but after a few weeks/months the need to change things usually strikes. I already got trouble looking at my last summer's pieces without cringing since I see so many aspects in them that should be redrawn.

blackhellcat In reply to zorm [2007-04-02 22:55:09 +0000 UTC]

But she's a very cute and sexy young woman and I like her freckles, too. But her lover is kinda exaggerated with his bulging, vein-ribbed muscles and ALL THAT HAIR! (His hair glands must've have been on steroids!)

The Beauty & Beast theme would make a very wonderful romance fantasy; Snape himself is a "Beast" who is very gentle with his own "Beauty", Tonks, who herself looks a very fragile little fairy with her bright pink hair. That is very, very darkly romantic.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

zorm In reply to blackhellcat [2007-04-03 08:48:13 +0000 UTC]

I just don't think there's ever been a plump Disney princess before. XD And she's only young in the standards of her own universe, in our years she's 60.

Khran and his elvish race (zinigh'aldjaatd) actually make parody of all the beautiful, slim, sparkly elves out there, so all the exaggeration is purposeful. They have genetically different proportions to that of a standard human: the average height for a man is 7 feet and for a woman it is 6Β½. They have much sturdier bones, wider barrel-shaped ribcages, and the men are indeed impossibly hairy, bulky, anything but beautiful, and may seem as if they had devoured a whole apothecary's worth of steroids. XD Khran is unfortunately also from the bigger end even by their standards, what with him being 8 feet tall. 17000 years of battlefield life has obviously contributed a lot to the appearance of his muscles. xP

The whole Snape/Tonks had a lot of the B&B theme in it too. Well, it was fun while it lasted. I just got uninspired when book 6 came out and couldn't fit it any more into the new canon (I'm like that with fanfic these days; I just don't want to break up canon pairings and I like Remus Lupin as a character anyhow).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

blackhellcat In reply to zorm [2007-04-03 11:57:05 +0000 UTC]

She doesn't look plump to me...at least she has a perfect hourglass. When her torso is shaped like a barrel, then she's "plump" in my own eyes. But you are right about one thing: most teen Disney princesses are built just like beauitful, slim, sparkly elves. And it would have been so lovely to be young for a much longer time than we have now.

Khran is an ELF?! Wow!!! That certainly kills all stereotypes of a sweet, dainty little elf (ever read Elfquest, BTW?) And he is certainly very, very virile even with all those disgusting earthworm-like blood vessels wriggling under his flesh!

Yes, I could tell that your Snape/Tonks love story was swiftly killed off when the canon Snape thoughtlessly slammed the Hogwart's gates into the poor Tonks' face. (Personally, I think Remus Lupin is pretty boring and would probably make Tonks a boring husband, heh. )

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

zorm In reply to blackhellcat [2007-04-03 22:15:30 +0000 UTC]

Is 'roundish' a better word? She's certainly more fleshy than I am (I'm not underweight, I just exercise a lot and look much more sinewy), or any Disney princess for that matter.

Whilst being indeed parody of the stereotypes, one of the original ideas for these elves derives itself from the Finnish mythology, where elves can take many a shape from beautiful forest elves (metsΓ€nhaltijat) to something much more mischievous, unpleasant-looking, and hairy (f. ex. hiisi). Or they may work as small hidden guardians of the house (kotitonttu, 'house-elf') and other property. This is indeed where the whole house-elf concept in Potter derives itself from; Rowling must've read Finnish folklore somewhere.
While Khran and his kin are ugly, they retain many of the 'standard' elvish features. They live for tens of thousands of years, wield magic, etc.
Haven't read Elfquest, though. American comics are a bit hard to come by here.

Yup, Snape is zillions of times more interesting a character to be paired with Tonks than Lupin. Oh well.

zorm In reply to littledinosaurarms [2007-04-03 22:23:23 +0000 UTC]

Well, that's exactly the reason why I shifted to something entirely different years ago and stopped listening to the radio. I'm just one of those cranky old nitpickers who need complex melodies and more interesting lyrics than 'baby ooh baby yeah yeah wossup'. Nowadays I have such oddball stuff as Estonian folk metal or Icelandic sagas sung in Old Norse on my playlist, among others. XD

Well, it's a bit difficult to say what's foreign in my case, considering my residence here in the back of beyond... XD For the most part I listen to Finnish Viking/folk metal bands which sing in various dialects of Finnish, Swedish, Saami, and English, but have music on my collection sung/growled at least in the following languages aside from English: Russian, Old and new Norse, Icelandic, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Estonian, and Polish. One can tell it's a bit, well... international. XD

Awesome! I don't have very much European music, just a very small sampling of Romanian, German, Swedish, and French. Mostly, if it isn't English it's in Japanese. It makes some sense, because that's what I'm studying.
