Description An image that I drew a lot of time ago but didn't work on it until recent days. This is Terra Branford from Final Fantasy VI looking into the distance and seeing a world of ruin; a world of ruin that can be rebuilt and be the best one yet. Her whole life had been associated with war, formerly being used as a weapon capable of killing hundreds of soldiers and then going to war as one of the leaders of the resistance. Even having all that experience as a leader, she is still afraid of going out to build a new strange world.

That is the face of naive young innocence, not that of a battle hardened veteran.

No person who have killed, let alone killed hundreds can look like that.

Edgy. >.> Take it you haven't played FF6? Well, that game's about HOPE after war, not about "battle-hardened, shellshock" stuff.

I am not saying that there can't be hope too, but veterans from a war can't look like this. To kill another human being, requires us to confront a very dark part of our soul, a part that most of us pretend don't exist, the part innocence can't know exist, and that is the part of ourselves that is a monster.

PTSD don't come from what people see in war, it comes from what they discover themselves to be, it comes from a soldiers inability to unite his pre war view of himself, that of a decent human being, with that dark part of himself, the part that is a monster.

People who can accept themselves as a monster don't get PTSD but they are also very much no longer innocent.

That doesn't mean that there can't be hope, that is not what I said, but a soldier returning from war carries what they are their entire life.

Well, let me try to explain it. She was under mind control, and after the World ends, she finds love, which helps her become more optimistic than she'd ever been. Also, it's fanart. Of a video game. I get that it might be a bit "touchy", since it seems you're really a soldier, but please don't try to take it too seriously.

I was under the impression that she was some type of psionic supersoldier like Yuriko Omega from Red Alert 3.

As a quick summery, Yuriko is one of the Empire of the Rising Sun's greatest weapon, she can crush a heavy tank with her mind alone and send an entire platoon of soldiers flying.

Yuriko have killed hundreds if not thousands of soldiers, and therefore have little respect for human life.

Also the end of a war, is not the same as the end of the world. Germany after world war two was almost completely decimated. But once the fighting have stopped a country can quickly rebuild, because the real treasure for a nation, is not its buildings and infrastructure, but its people, these who were ultimately responsible for building it all.

Well, no, again, Terra was brainwashed, and then, she had amnesia for a time... I'm sorry, I don't want to argue war and politcs and stuff on a piece of art about a video game anymore.

Brainwashed means convinced though conditioning to believe something different than one initially did.

The process requires many months of psychological as well as physical torture, where the person in question is broken down completely and than build up as something new.

In other words that is a lot more psychological scaring than if she had simply been following orders and believing in what she was doing like Yuriko Omega, as it just add another problem on top of her being a killer.

As for amnesia, and by that I am sure thou mean retrograde amnesia, well that is a lot more complex, but even if she doesn't know anything she did, the training is still there, including the killer instinct.

We can of course make it arbitrarily more severe, but remember amnesia is brain damage, it is not really something that one becomes a better person from.
