Pencil Drawing of Preston Jones (Commission)On acid free mat board 15” x 24”
I don’t often do commissions but this one is an exception. It was a great drawing to work on; Preston has a very intriguing face, a serious, deep, gaze… a thinker and artist, but with more then a hint of kindness.

OH. MY. GOD. WOW. thats absolutely gorgeous! I love the expression-your pictures are a hundred times more beutiful than photos, it's amazing! The detail in the sweater is insane! Is your work all with pencil or charcoal...? All your work is beutiful, this one no exeption. I admire so much how you get the skinlike texture and the fineness of the hair. WOW.

every little blemish. the subtle glints of light in the eyes.
the expertly drawn gradiations from light to shadow.
the fiber of the sweater. each and every hair of his mustache.
the glasses! i HATE drawing glasses! especially wire frames! patooie!
and each and every bit of it done flawlessly.
i've seen my share of graphite artists,...i even know a few of them,...
and you rank among the best of them man.

As always. I am in awe of your skill with graphite. The sheer wealth of detail, from the knit weave of the jumper to the age spots and creases in his chin, this is superb.
But the beauty is more than your technical expertise and control of the medium. I can almost feel the respect you feel for your subject. There is a serenity in his deep gaze, like he is weighing your worth, but without judgement, just an acceptance of who you are.

After seeing your work "up close and personal" last year I can appreciate that there is so much more to this than this "darn" computer screen can't show me. Your attention to the smallest of details, along with your ability to portray more than just the person's likeness, is still very evident.

Amazing how you manage to capture all this details. It's as if he is realy looking to me. I think even more than by a photo.
I would realy like to know what you need to draw such a formidable picture. Do you need to see the person all the time. Or do you use a photo. Or can you draw it "out of minde" ?
