Description
“For God and Country”Pencil on Acid Free Illustration Board
22” x 30”
This work is part of an on going series called “Neo-Fossil. Inspired by fossils, their shape, their texture and history.
In this work, I am reacting to man’s continuing preoccupation at killing and dying for God and Country. I do this by representing a synthesis of religious, social and anatomical images. I try to bear witness to that moment when the next tenant of this planet finds proof of our existence, in the form of fossils. This is not a fatalistic view, but a deep respect for the powers of nature (e.g. God) to reclaim and recreate.
Thanks Nimra

This is a gorgeous picture, as always, but I especially love what it represents. That, along with the description, is one powerful image. A very unique concept as well.

Firstly, I like the way the image appears flat and solid in certain areas, for example, the black and white twirly chain pattern (bottom centre of image) looks flat and the barbed wire around the helment looks solid.
In this image I can see a hand holding a sword and/or a man with a very long beard, I think that vikings had part(s) of their beards braided and this shows something similiar.
The image as a whole looks like it's part of a shield, or a flag or a reference to the death of Jesus in the way that the image depicts a cross emphasized with the barbed wire wrapped around the head. The horizontal part of the image shows a rocky foreground with a fiery background (it also looks like hair) and this goes very well with the arc shape under the mouth which looks like an upside down entrance, to hell.
The bold lines used for the face, particularly above the eyes look like eyebrows and goes well with the cracks depicting facial characteristics such as wrinkles, but I also see these distinct lines as the shape/outline of the helmets visor.
The face is very dark and cold looking and also timeless.
Well done on visually and emotionally strong image Armin.

Very very nice piece that captures the "artless art of war"; dying for god and country.
Kudos to an amazing pic.

Wow! What a fantastic piece! I love the attention to detail here, the contract in the textures; its as if you can reach out and feel the gravel-like surfact of the face.
