Description “Waxing & Waning”
Pencil on Illustration board

Image size 22” x 30” after framing 34” x 42”

This is actually a two part project the drawing which is shown here completed, and a forthcoming, constructed frame will heighten the feel of this drawing. The frame which is a wood construction, painted and given the illusion of weathered, rusted steal will be completed within the next few weeks.

Waxing & Waning. Life itself is a continuum of birth and death, something that was made very clear when my mother passed away during this drawing. At the hospital in the waiting room as I sat in grief, a family awaited the birth of a child to their daughter, laughter and pride filled the room as I sat choking down my tears.

Waxing & Waning relates to a series of drawings called “neo-fossil” that I have been working on for some ten years. This drawing was conceived and started way before my mother’s brief illness but it turned out to be very fitting. There is so much symbolism here that I don’t want to divulge, I am more interested to how it’s translated by others then what inspired me to draw this. Making art is always a journey and the destination only becomes clear when the viewer finds truth with their own unique interpretation.

Thanks for looking

There a a lot of very talented people who post their work here, and I always enjoy viewing the complexities of this similar works, but this wondrous piece is far above the best of the best. It reached me on so many different levels, but it would take so much time. One thing I would like to share is when I first looked at the thumbnail, the general shape of the piece reminded me of my grandmother's mantle clock. I only wish i could view it for real or in a higher resolution.

Wow this piece is amazing. It reminds me of this old PC game called Myst. It was a puzzle game that was pretty abstract and every part of it was a mysterious combination of nature and machine. Great job and grats on the DD btw

Wow...
ONE DAY...I would be priveliged if I could ever be as gifted as you are...
It was the anniversary of my fathers death just a few days ago, so this made think, memories I wish I had...
At first I wasn't going to say anything, but then I thought, 'why shouldn't I?'
...I feel...I share...

That's really strange because the skull seems to have more and more detail every time I look at it. And the roots and everything also kind of seems to have the same effect.
