Description
CompletedIn the Name of the Father Sold 2007
Pencil on matboard 21” x 40”
Under the auspices of the Christian church there have been both horrible atrocities and amazing selfless acts of giving, all in “The Name of the Father”. The rouge priest stands for this duality; representing both the victim and culprit. Is he freeing the Christ from his cross or tearing him from his symbol of martyrdom? Helper, healer, consoler, rapist, madman, thief…

amazing drawing.
I'm not familiar with all the terminology, so pardon me if this has already been answered, but was this done entirely by traditional means or did you use photoshop or other such editing?

No this is done with just a pencil, I did take a digital photo after it was completed and adjusted the tones in PS that all.

I am astonished. I seem to get up every day to look for a new deviation by you, or failing that to savor the ones you already share. Not only do you draw the most realistic images, your portraits enthral the senses, celebrate your loved ones, address significant human issues, and create controversey. I noticed one DA member referred to "Name of the Father" as "anti christ." I believe you have us stirred-up! I just wish that I had the kind of money that would allow me to buy an original so that I could sit and stare at it instead of my 20 year old 13 inch Sony tv. Because of your work I feel compelled pick up a pencil and to draw every day, but of course I never do...

Now that is one amazing picture. Not only is it photorealistic, but it also tells a story about the character as well, something sorrowful and harrowing. You heighten this with your use of light and shadow, which is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Wonderful tech and awesome attention to detail. It's artists like you that make me thankful that DA exists. I real thought-provoking pleasure, thanks for sharing.

wow....talk about talent...i love this picture...(norman rockwell is one of my favorite artists)it's great!...i just had one question...how long did this take u??? i don't know if u already said, but this must of been one construction of a work...the detail is so carefully mastered! i love how you utilize the two figures...the expression on the priests face shows to me, more pain...but at the same time...he could be expressing guilt...ha haha...we don't know? well it's open to interpretaion...i'm catholic...and i agree with your statement....nowadays it's hard to determine if some people's faith is more secular or sacred (jus my opinion)...well i would love to know how your masterpiece came to be a conception of your talent...i mean u must of sketched alot, right....is that your favorite media? Well hit me back up...i would love to have u critique my piece...when u have time...i'm still trying to sharpen my skills...still workn at it...keep up the great work
peace,

Thank you for the good words, this did take a long time but all my work does. In saying that I in no way believe all good work takes this long, on the contrary I have seen some amazing work done in no more than an hour. Me, its not my forte, I am not a great sketcher. I get 100% involved in a drawing and it becomes a journey of intellect and emotion in the time that I am producing the work, its all encompassing, its all I seem to think about at that period. This make me a pretty boring bloke.
I would love to check out your work

no problem...i'm new to this site....i don't have alot of work up right now...but i will definitely put more up when i can...well i didn't even want to "try" and critique your work, cuz it's too good for me to critique...i wuz intimidated, wut can i say....i love to draw...i've been drawin since i was little...sounds to me like your a perfectionsit which i like to be too...every artist should take pride in a work that's been carefully thought out and processed...for some it's a long process while for others, it's like a short summary of the original narrative...I agree, i like to take my time with my work...and when i do i'm consumed in the process...hahaha...i'm focused and all my concentration is on my drawings...i isolate myself and drown out all distractions...it's so relaxing to me...but i love it! Well thnx for the reply, hope to see more great work armin!
peace,
troo
