Description
Shattered I8โ x 8โ pencil on hot press board.
This is a small pencil drawing of a smashed light bulb. Set up as a still life with low lighting and a low view (worm eye) this was a very interesting drawing to execute. This is only the first part of a diptych type presentation. Thank you

It's funny. I always tell people I don't like still-lifes, but then I come across really interesting concepts like this one. Attractive arrangements of fruit don't interest me, but it's fascinating to look at the shimmering edges of broken glass and to think that that perfect glitter has been rendered in pencil.

I bow to your skills of being able to draw metal and glass, got any tips for people when they are drawing these things?

You definitely bring some well-deserved credibility and exposure to the entire traditional art scene here at DA.
I preffer your drawings that have more elements of design rather than still lifes, but this one certainly reinforces your technical abilities---I can only imagine you keep our pencils sharp as a needle to get this kind of detail.

This is almost frightening in its realism. The way you've replicated the shine of the metal and glass is just about stunning. You have quite an eye to be able to capture such things.

you have done what many artists are terrified to do. you executed an unbelievable feat of technical skill. often we are afraid to explore the depths of our own talent, because of the possibility of failure...
wow. bravo

Hi, I have a question, not on just this but all of your art... Do you first take a photo and then draw what you are seeing or do you do all of your drawings from observation alone? Good rendering on that either way, you have a good tight skill, and an eye for an interesting subject. Is this a profession or a hobby?

Sometimes I do all that you mentioned. I work from life, reference photos and my imagination. I am a professional artist, that makes a living teaching.

The EXACTNESS. It is just striking. Detailed down to the last, tiniest glass shard's edges. Shaded down to the very last shadow, and not one reflection left forgotten. Bam. Envy.

Even though I like your abstract artwork alot more than the "from-life" stuff, I really love this piece. I think it's because of the way you simulated the reflections and the surface of the glass shards. It took me alot of effort to remind myself this is just a drawing

This amazes me. I saw it in someones faves and thought "thats a nice photo" and it wasn't until I noticed the title that I went "oh. my. god" and had to click to confirm that it actually wasn't a photo.
Anyway less of my anecdote.
This is stunning. I don't think I've ever seen something hand drawn look so realistic - the attention to detail is magnificent, especially the light reflections on the glass.
