Dear Armin,

I understand you are not a politician.
I¡m just saying, with your skills and your popularity, you could do some big things. Hundreds visit your page every day, people take you seriously because you're truly admirable. But you are probably right, that artists should not get involved into politics so much. Art is supposed to be beautiful, while politics aren't really, it would be in a way quite disharmonious, I agree.

I appreciate you replying to my comment,

Janona

This drawing has gotten much attention and caused conversation about mans cruelty’s and that’s what art can do, make people aware. If I am at a party and randomly start taking about what crap Bush is pulling in the Middle East it starts a heated and hatful debate, I win no converts but alienate people. When people at this same party see a drawing it hits time in a more subconscious manner and we have the same talk but it tends to be about the drawing and the viewpoints within it, less a personal attack and more of an artistic concept.

Thanks Janona

sorry that i read this convo but it was the only one you replied to so i thought it would be interesting.
this has meanings to you and it has meanings to me aswell, i will keep them to mself as it is my inner most being. anyway, yes you are right, mankind has been cruel and foolish and that is why i dont have many friends. poeple think its odd and cruel that i dont accept poeple into my life just like that.
anyway, im veering away from the topic sorry. lol. typical me. i just wanted to ask you if you see any great beauty in the world and poeple and if you see how much deeper poeple are that they seem. (sorry if you find any of this offensive)

Sounds like a psychological strategy. Impressive. You're right, wrapped in a piece of art, everything is less offensive, more relative and probably even more manipulative (not necessarily in a negative way). That's good! So, what you are is not only an artist, an influencial communicator, you could say. So you are a little political, only in a well concealing disguise Cool...
Best wishes,
Janona

Appears the bird won. Or maybe, he was just on the sidelines. The neutral party always seems to come on top after the others have cast each other to oblivion. The gaze's seem to be staring at the final seconds of a deathblow moreso than eyeing/envying the bird (cancer/disease possibly.)

When you said in your comment; "The roots vaguely touch on the figurative and symbolize genocide in all its guises, and yet the destruction of nature and humans parallel one another.", I had the image of blood moreso than a symbol of man. Conceptually I see the "tops" as the point where skin had been cut. Regardless, the metaphor is beautifully announced millions of events happening to one cause.

I dont know, thought I would actually give a perspective on this piece this time rather than just say "Hey Armin, great job as usual."

You know us "young'ins" are just blown away by the years of experience you are able to display. Myself included.
So to resubstantiate my youthful image I say to you; Hey Armin, great job as usual.

AH.

Bluesrat In reply to ??? [2007-10-08 16:37:18 +0000 UTC]

It's successfully unsettling, bleak, with a definite pall of death looming over the whole piece. And yet...somehow I see hope in the picture as well. Perhaps it's the humanity of the eyes, but in the end, I see this picture as essentially optimistic. Though loaded with pain and regrets, we can still make our future into something better. To me, one eye stares out bluntly, forcing confrontation of the truth, while the other looks out and up, just a little, to a horizon that is still there despite it all.

I think it's one of the hallmarks of well-executed art that each person who looks at it is able to see something different. It's easy to put a single meaning into a picture; making room for multiple interpretations is the tricky part.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope that the pain is short-lived and that the good memories stay with you.

Thank you so much, it is very important that my work isn’t a dogmatic rant the nails down an idea into a specific story line. For me keeping it vague and opening it to the viewers interpretation is paramount. Even if someone get nothing out of it, thats better then “illustrating” exactly what I am thinking about.

I love the way you have conceptualised this work and the narrative is vitally important. To me there are some reminders of my past family life. Just on the face of the piece of work I find the roots so very fascinating and symbolic without any narration........in a way I find the 'triptychs' within the work slightly disturbing by their hard edges....maybe you want me to be disturbed and I fully appreciate that......but (and this is only a personal view and no way a crtit) I may have liked to see the eyes and the crow subtly encompassed within the upper ground but vignetted into the clouds.....maybe you had thought of that.....tried it......but just didn't have the impact you desired.........it is still a brilliant piece of work and extemely thought provoking.

Thanks you so much for your good words. The hard edge treatment that surrounds the eyes give them a separate feeling it’s a future yet it a prelude to what’s happening with the roots. It really isn’t in the same time-space continuum with what going on. In a way its like a comic-strip where each part of the story is in a separate box. The same hold true for the skulls yet the crow breaks the picture-plane becoming part of the scene in “real” sense. I see your point and am always happy that people use there own sensibility when viewing my work, interesting points for sure.
