Capture a bunch of comets from the Oort Cloud, steer them into the inner solar system, slow their speed with fusion powered retro rockets, plunk them down on the surface away from domed colonies, and you'll have a nice, dense atmosphere. Jimbo

Well done on this - it is much how I imagined my terraformed Mars to look, albeit less green

hmm, if we would start to terraform mars, i could imagine us only flooding the huge ocean in the northern part of the planet, and that all the lakes woud be filled up with rainwater over time. would that mean that the hellas basin would turn into a huge freshwater ocean?

Terraformation needs a lot more than just 'add water'. First we need to start to heat up the planet, then rebuild its atmosphere. Then we need to add at least in the case of Mars an magnetosphere.Don't ask me what exactly that is I just know it retains an atmospher.

Celestia Motherload has a learning packet for a terraforming Mars scenario. I used the end texture for the underlining part to give myself a little extra definition.

thank you . . .
im having a real hard time, at first I was just making a political map, but then the guy I was doing it for suddenly wanted to spheratize it
ugh . . . so I spent the last three hours trying to find a way to paste teh arctic regions onto the map me and my buddy made for him
that failed, so now we gotta start over
not a standard mars to, the water level is much lower on this mars than the typical terraformed mars

Mars has alot of vegetation. Imagine the oxygen levels. Imagine the thickened atmosphere composition! Most of all, imagine how would animal life thrive.

May i ask, how do i turn a .png to a .bin file? For Fractal Terrains Pro i mean.

.Bin File????
Well in order to import anything into FTP, you can only use the height map, and a B&W one at that.
You have to change the image to .bmp format, then flip it verticaly. Then in FTP, in the selection menu, at the very bottom you have to LOAD SELECTION and load your new .bmp height map. Then you must raise the global land offset to whatever you want until you get the land form you're looking for.
After that you must fiddle with the rain and tempurature levels, and water levels until you get the desired climate you are looking for. It's a very long and complicated process, there's a bit of a learning curve.
You cannot load in a .png picture of the Earth with blue oceans and green forrests and expect perfect reproduction on your screen. It does NOT work that way. If you want something like the above, be prepared to work it out in photoshop for several hours.

Fractal Terrains Pro is what I used to find all the vegetation areas. Then Photoshop to do the coloring and finally Bryce for all my 3D views.
There was a great download for a terraformed Mars activity that I found on the Celestia Motherload. That is what you mostly see in the background.. I used it for the bottom layer of texturing, that is what gives it depth. The rest of the actual colors I had to do myself. Also.. it came with a great city lights, so the hard part of getting the coastline to match up.
