Yin stared at the tea in front of her like it insulted her. It didn’t do anything wrong of course; in fact, she had specifically requested this tea in the hopes of keeping her calm. But the situation she was in was uncomfortable, and she had nowhere to direct the feeling but at the tea without fear of being questioned.
She was in her home, inside one of the rooms of the palace. Her eyes glanced up from her tea towards the man sitting at the opposite end of the table.
“You understand this is fate, correct?”
His voice was kind, but it didn’t set her at ease. The man was tall, likely as tall as her, if not taller. His long dark blue hair was tied into a ponytail with his crown holding it in place.
“It.. most definitely is a surprise to say the least..” Yin spoke, taking a slow sip of her tea before placing it down. “But I do not know if I would call it fate.” After all fate would imply something good, and this was not.
“Princess Yin, you must understand the position we are in. It was a miracle for you to have been born a second Seasons Dragon, and it is almost impossible for us both to exist within the same century.” He smiled to her, he knew what was going on, and had far more confidence that it would go the way he – or at least his family – would want it to. He was a dragon, common to almost any land here. His horns curled into a spiral, proudly claiming he was from a Water Dragon family, but his scales were as black as hers currently. And if what his family stated was to be believed, he had been born one summer day with firey red scales; he was a Seasons Dragon. Another Fluke Seasons Dragon, just like her father, who had likely been treated the same as he was.
“Why would your parents say no to what my family is offering?”
Yin was thankful she had as much control of her expressions as she did, or she would have made a face showing just how horrible she thinks the idea is. But he was right. Whatever this man’s family was talking about with hers.. it would likely end in a betrothal. It didn’t matter what she wanted to say on this matter, or how much she’d not want to be a part of it. It didn’t matter if she was currently courting with someone outside of their realm, or that she loved that man with all her heart. If their families come to an agreement.. If her father tells her to, she would have no choice but to listen to him… She would be betrothed the man in front of her, Prince Li Wei.
