then this guy with his green hair, no sclera, Special Lure that looks like Misty's and basically being overly into everything comes along
he took some getting used to, i like him now, but before he was just a bit too over the top

Because
1) She contributed little to the Plot, Misty coached Ash, Iris berated him all the time
2) Her one-liner was STUPID AS FUCK
3) They gave her Zero Purpose, she was like 'I'm Gonna be a Dragon Master' and then proceeded to Not catch the 2 Dragons she'd befriend, catch an Emolga and only catch a Dragon 90 Episodes into the Series - and never evolve Any during that time
4) She did not deserve that Dragonite, at all. She literally got hand outs all Season and her PokΓ©mon managed to overshadow her so many times
5) She had zero contribution to the group; Misty was the Battle Coach, May, Dawn and Serena were bakers and the Alternate-Career Path, the closest Iris did to contributing was those 2 occasions she made herbal remedies and read a PokΓ©mon's Mind
She was a poor cloning attempt of Misty (Best at a Type, Fear of a Type, carries a First Stage PokΓ©mon) who did little to stand out, which is why i dislike her

Um. You really like the gen 1 cuz you've been saying that Iris and Cilan are clones of Misty and Brock. I think.
But who's stronger Iris or Misty ?...

uh Misty, Iris's Strongest lineup is her only lineup, Dragonite is the only relevant one since Excadrill loses to typing
Likewise, every gym leader Iris has faced she's lost in and Gyarados is perfectly able to handle Dragonite
you'd be blind not to see the BW/OS similarities
lemme break it down for you
2 Gym Leader Companions, One is the first Gym Leader who is the tallest, has a great passion for something, has something different to the regular anime characters when it comes to eyes, has multiple siblings and aspires to be something other than a Gym Leader with PokΓ©mon
the Other is a Girl who Ash first encounters, albeit accidentally but decides to follow him, she is also a Gym Leader but of low regard because of their alternative leaders who are at the Gym itself, they aim to be the best at a Single Type and have a fear of a different type, they berate Ash for his childish antics and carry a first stage PokΓ©mon with them which they got as a baby, making them the mother
Sound Familiar?

Iris isn't champion in the anime
you forget additional details like the introduction of alternate career paths (Contests and Showcases) which the female lead chooses to pursue sometime after their debut, the underage one befriending a lonely childlike pokΓ©mon in a 'haunted mansion', Ash obtaining only 1 Starter, the list goes on

in the games Iris is an Easy Champion
if they put their strongest teams together (Iris' Challenge Mode Team vs Misty's Expert PWT Team) it'd be
Hydreigon, Salamence, Archeops, Aggron, Lapras and Haxorus
vs
Starmie, Lanturn, Jellicent, Lapras, Quagsire and Blastoise
Hydreigon vs Starmie would be Starmie, since it has Superior speed, Ice Beam and Hydreigon has no type advantage moves (Fire and Fighting moves only with Dragon Pulse and Surf)
Iris would choose Salamence for Crunch (Since her Thunder Lapras is too Slow), but Starmie's speed will weaken it with another Ice Beam before the finish, leading to Blastoise
Blastoise can hold off an Attack with its Superior defense and lay out an Avalanche for the win, leading to Haxorus (due to Blastoise's Speed Boost from the berry it holds trumping Lapras again) but will lose to Added Speed + Blastoise's Outrage
Iris will wear Blastoise's Outrage with Aggron's steel typing, a Muscle Band-Powered Head Smash will do the trick plus the Rock Head ability, Misty will then use Jellicent and Surf to overcome Aggron, leading to Iris's Lapras
Shadow Ball will hit but Jellicent will lose to a Sing/Thunder Combo, so out comes Quagsire, it'll be a long winded mission since neither have super effective attacks, but Lapras will just survive, albeit be asleep due to Yawn, Lanturn will finish Lapras leaving a finale of Lanturn and Archeops
a Flying Gem-powered Acrobatics will half Lanturn's Hp due to the gem making it x1 damage, but Sitrus Berry and Thunderbolt will lay it down, the Defeatist ability will kick in, lowering Archeops' attack, rendering it moot for Endeavor, Stone Edge or Dragon Claw to take much effect. Thus, Lanturn finishes off with another Thunderbolt
Misty wins 6-5
