Here's my latest college project. We were asked to do any project we liked and were given 5 weeks' time to finish it. I've chosen to create this book which is meant to create awareness of design in a very simple way - through a monologue. When put together in order, the spreads say:

"What is design? Is it what people say it is? Is it just fancy artwork? No. Design is a lot more than that. It is simple, honest, intelligent communication. Of course, that doesn’t mean it has to look boring… that’s what makes it such hard work!

Good design costs more than a pair of jeans, but the value it brings is enormous. Why pay twice as much for a Mac that’s half as powerful as a PC? It’s simple. It’s pretty. It works. It’s good design and you want one.

A good product + A good design = Happy customers *

* Happy customers help you grow"

The order of the spreads is from left to right, top to bottom, the first (top-left) one being the cover.

Printed on:
Cover - 260gsm Stardream Dolomite metallic paper
Inner pages - 260gsm matte coated art paper

Cut, stitched and bound by hand by me.

Some stock images taken from sxc.hu (paper, book etc. on spread 2 and Mac Pro on spread 10). Credit for the tileable wood texture on spread 2 goes to [link] by *ftIsis-Stock

You just sold me a mac. A third one 8D

I love the monologue, I didn't think it was advertisement, at the beggining it felt more of a definition (I had a project to definine "contemporary design" on a book once), so, while you think you read an essay, a pretty displayed narrative, ¡BAM! buy our products! nicely done 8)

very clever, beautiful, but i don't agree with you on the mac thing, what mac brings in that is most appealing are the cheap softwares and the hardware compatibility that a pc made of korean + chinese + who-knows-where-made parts don't have.

I agree that Macs are easier to run and the default hardware has no compatibility issues, that's what I meant by the "it works" part. BTW I'd say Windows 7 is also just as good in the hardware department, it has correctly recognized everything I've thrown at it till now! And the software that really matters (Adobe CS for example) costs the same on a Mac, whereas there could be several free alternatives on other computers for cheap paid Mac software. Also, the expensive hardware more than makes up for the cheap software.

I'm not against Macs at all, I'd prefer to work on a Mac over a Windows PC any day, but I don't think Macs are quite perfect yet and I feel the HUGE price difference is unjustified. Which doesn't mean I wouldn't pay that much for a Mac. Hehehe...

I really like this. It really shows aspiring and interested graphic designers how design is not boring and you can find beauty and creativity in any project you may come in contact with. Great job!
