Description
My version of a young Celebrian, daughter of Celeborn and Galadriel and later wife of Elrond.I have always been intrigued by minor characters with tragic stories like hers and LoTR has quite a few.
She's (c) Tolkien

One must ask themselves just how, someone like Elrond, was able to promptly have three children with someone like Celebrian.

Beautiful. Iβve been trying to figure out what I like best, but I realized itβs how it all comes together. The faded trees in the back, Celebrian herself and the jugend-like border.

Well done - This is really good! I like the whole fairytale style you have put into this; but you really have your own style of drawing, kinda cartoon-realist. If this character has a tragic story in her tale then you should have made her looking downwards or crying or just a little sad; she looks quite happy in this picture. Otherwise, this is really good and keep up the good work! xx

I believe i explained this to someone else too but i made her happy and carefree looking because this was meant as a portrayal of her early self, before her tragic fate.I did it this way to enhance even more the difference between her former self and the later, more known, miserable one.
But in any case,i'm glad if you still liked this, thanks for your nice words on my style and work!

That explains it! Sometimes I take a little time to figure out what a piece of art means, especially if it's a drawing. I'm more of the writing type -> [link] ... please pleeaaaase comment on my stuff and feel free to prompt me to write about one of your drawings!(~ your link would be added to my artist's comments.) xx

How lovely! You have oodles of talent!! I'd love to see a coloured version too. You don't have any line-art that I could colour, do you? I'll give credit to you, of course, if I get to upload it. (Doing a Masters thesis at the moment!)

No problem. You can't be too careful about the art theft risk. I don't like copyright infringement very much, which ties in nicely with the fact that I'm going to be qualified as a librarian in a couple of months.

And the background is spectacular!

I like this art nouveau style a lot. I like the contrast from the parts with the darker lines to the lighter background. And I think you're right: In a lot of books minor characters seem a lot more interesting than the main characters.

Thank you very much again! It's very nice to know you liked the things you mentioned.
And it's true,i'm not sure why but sometimes i find myself more drawn to background characters than the main ones.Perhaps it's the curiosity for their untold stories or their purity compared to the sometimes overworked protagonists.

And yes, you really like minor-tragic characters (like Ramandu's daughter ), it's good that someone give them some attention! (Specially if the attention is so nicely done

You know, this is weird. I really think this is a very good drawing! (Well, your drawings are generally near-perfect ) But somehow she's not at all how I would imagine Celebrian... She looks too young and too naive to be Elrond's wife. There are several things that bother me but I can't quite place my finger on them.

Several things artistic-wise?Anatomy-wise?I'm always interested to know and i appreciate hints.
As for the character's portrayal, funny you said that because i did want to make her young and naive-looking,my idea of her is that of a somewhat weak and frail character, who chose to "flee",even if that meant leaving her family behind, after what happened to her.Of course,my perception might be completely wrong But that's how i think about it anyway.
Also,i wanted the lovely looks so as to make a contrast with her later misery, for those who are familiar with the story.
In any case,i'm glad if it looks good as a drawing. And thanks for your comment!

heidinanookie In reply to Achen089 [2010-03-12 10:20:56 +0000 UTC]
No, not artistic-wise. Definitely not. Anatomy-wise? Now that you ask, her neck is a bit too long but that's not really a problem here.
As a said, I can't quite put a finger on the things that seem off about her. It seems that you have a much more complex perception of her character, though. I never thought about her that much (but I DID think about her. She's the mother of Arwen, Elladan and Elrohir, after all!). I guess you have a point about her being weak, but on the other hand it's completely different for elves to be separated for some centuries than it is for humans since they live forever and all that... Maybe she viewed her departure as some kind of sick leave.
While we are at it: A very interesting character do draw should be Finduilas of Dol Amroth. She gets a bit more of a description in the books (compared to Celebrian, anyway) and she seems like a very tragic character.
