Description
Skin is fascinating, this is not a skin tones tutorial but more of a skin optics kinda thing. Btw I never went to art school or whatever, so erm, this is not the absolute word on the topic, just a collection of thoughts. For info about what brushes I use check out the Blending Tutorial:[link]
I'm using Photoshop CS2 and Wacom Intuos 2 for this.
Edit: apologies to those of you who are freaked out by the little skin balls, hahahahaha, sorry really

I don't get it.
It's too complicated.
Which tools do you use?

I found this when it was brand new, and I STILL point people to it (and use it myself) when they're confused on how to color skin. Beautiful piece of work.

This is a fantastic tutorial! The skin balls are unsettling, but that just means they've succeeded in capturing the proper texture of skin and dipped into the uncanny valley in the best way possible. Once I get my tablet working I'll be putting this to use!

I was wondering why the model I just did a portrait of had such a reddish tint in mid-tones adjacent to highlights. SSS!
Very well done.
