Description
Having been missing for four years, Atlee has begun searching for her absent friend Karen Starr. So far finding two individuals who claim the name 'Power Girl' but who don't fit...Tanya Spears ( the girl with the blue jacket and Disney mascot hairstyle ) is a new character introduced recently in the Worlds Finest series, and is apparently being prepared to become the primary Powergirl of the New 52 DC.
Atlee, also known as the third Terra, was introduced roughly around the same period as other teenage characters like Miss Martian or Bombshell, she effectively became the Modern Era DC Power Girls best friend and was then rebooted away by the New 52.

I think that even if we're going to see other version, other origin or story of our favorite characters the original are every time going to be the only that we know and love. Like the new spidermans, Miles Morales and Spidergwen, even if there are new character that will be our favorite heroes, the original Peter Parker is the only and true spiderman. Or Batman, Superman, WonderWoman. Kara Zor-El will be every time considered the first and only true Powergirl.

Good point, although I have to admit i prefer to call her Karen ( Kara to her friends ) Starr to avoid the confusion with the other Kara Zor-El.

Thanks, and maybe we should give a Tanya Spears a chance like a new Powergirl, we don't see her so much for saying that is an awful decision. I remember when the fans have heard that Miles Morales would became Spiderman we had a strange feelings, we didn't know if we can see spiderman with a other face if wasn't Peter Parker. But when i and all the spiderman fans read the new comic we were in love with Miles, cause he was a new character with we can relate, and see his feeling and what he pass in his life was something great. The thing that i don't like about Tanya Spears is that seems being Powergirl just because Karen saying to her to do this. I have read that she lost his parents when darkseid destroy their city, but only this! We want to feel what happened to her, feel why she want to became Powergirl, what is the purpose for became a heroine, something more than "I have the powers so i can" and please writers do something good with her. So we can just give to her a chance and hope that can became a good decision and plus having the real Powergirl back, or maybe is going to be just another bad decision. And again Karen is the true Powergirl that we know and love but i really want to know more about her, and give to her a chance.

What do you think of Tanya Spears, as a character herself?

I felt she could well be a decent addition to the Teen Titans, but she would be better off without being called 'Power girl'.

But what about other comic book character who also took up the mantle of previous heroes and villains who call themselves the same thing?

In DC comics that usually means the previous character is killed off or pushed into obscurity ( unless it is an top tier character ), which doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

I think most of us have fictional characters that we like and would be defensive of if someone was going to remove the aspects that made that character for us, or to replace them with a completely different person.
When the new thing done is to let writers do just that, i don't think anyone should be amazed that it can jar with fans.

Adam, you really display here the longing the Terra Atlee has to finding her lost friend. Powergirl. You are not alone, and I think you have reawakened in me my anger that the New 52 ripped these two characters apart. In my mind, Powergirl and Atlee were much more than friends, and much more than Powergirl mentoring Terra. There was a sense of family when the two characters were together, like mother and daughter, or like related sisters. You have really expressed in this work the longing all of Powergirl's fans have felt at what DC did.
Meanwhile, over in "Earth 2: Worlds End" a major battle is going on for control of the planet, and Powergirl is wearing the House of El "S" on her chest. DC has really f*cked up the Powergirl heritage that Amanda Connor worked so hard to restore.
A number of years ago, I gave up on comics, after DC killed off Supergirl in "Crisis On Infinite Earths", and stopped buying them whatsover. It was a cruel and useless way to treat a beloved character. If DC doesn't stop screwing around with PeeGee, I'm done.
Also in the New 52 in addition to totally taking Terra Atlee out of PeeGee's life, they really messed around with the Huntress. DC did a wonderful storyline a number of years back where Helena Bertinelli was The Huntress and tracked down the killers of her family in Europe. Now the DC universe seems to want nothing to do with that Huntress, and have introduced Helena Wayne of Earth 2 whose parents Bruce Wayne and Catwoman Selina Kyle are killed in the invasion of Earth 2 by Darkseids minions. She operated as Robin in Earth 2 and is boomtubed along with Earth-2's Supergirl (Karen Starr) to Earth prime, and become Powergirl and the Huntress. They have now returned to Earth 2 in Worlds End.

This.
The relationship between Atlee and PG was one of the true highlights of modern comic book storylines. It was beautiful; it was fun; it was touching. At one point they practically merge their souls together during a special bonding at Atlee's underground home.
That, to me, was something that DC really should have continued to explore. Amanda Conner's will always write/draw the definitive Power Girl for me, and I'm glad that Amanda and Jimmy have continued to write that version of PG in the Harley Quinn universe, even if it flies in the face of this latest rebooted character.
PG and Atlee were magic together - hopefully Harley can capture some of that magic too...

Good to hear from you again, Adam.
I've been following the Harley Quinn/Powergirl limited series. Apparently it's still based around PG having amnesia. It's been fun reading so far, but I checked DC Comics for the upcoming months, and I don't see any mention whatsoever as to what is going to be done with PeeGee. Sure hope they retain Amanda and Jimmy for a while, perhaps.
And somewhere, Atlee is continuing her quest.....

On the upside, i've heard the Power Girl who guest appeared in Harley Quinn recently was sort of closer to the one from the 2009-2011 solo series ( which would make sense since Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Connor are both writing the Harley Quinn series ) but i haven't yet read the comic.

I purchased those Harley Quinn titles that guest starred Powergirl. She lands and is knocked out in the landing, I'm trying to figure out why. She loses her memory temporarily and becomes BFFs with Harley, who tries to lead her in the wrong direction. It's actually pretty humorous, and Amanda Connor was involved with it. You might want to pick them up.

I didn't think Harley was trying to lead her in the wrong direction so much as Harley wanting to be PG's sidekick and having her as a BFF...they did engage in hero activities, after all (even if Harley is a bit reckless sometimes)

I got around to reading them, the Harley Quinn comics were brilliant, one of the best things DC has published in the last few years, they even moved Power Girls build back to her old incarnation.

And I finally finished the Earth 2: Worlds End. A rather vague ending with the destruction of Earth 2 by Darkseid and his minions and the heroes and many of of the people plus a codex with DNA from the lost world escape in a space vehicle.
Methinks the plan is to eventually reintegrate most of the characters into the current Earth, a la DC retro to 2011. DC is moving to the West Coast, and the "Convergence" event is a stop-gap, and that the New 52 will resume after DC has relocated. Which I seriously DOUBT. I think DC got a LOT of flak from the comic fans and has realized what a disaster the New 52 has been, and now they are trying to weasel out of it.
From what I'm reading, all of this is going to be explained away as Braniac with a series of Kandor-like domed cities, with the miscellaneous heroes trapped inside them, with a series of Convergence titles. PeeGee will be teamed with Superman in Action Comics, with her original costume with a modified meckline. And, my otbher favorite, Huntress will be teamed with Nightwing in Detective Comics.
And in all this, Terra Atlee and her friendship and bonding with Powergirl is still missing in action. DC is still removing their corporate noggins from their backsides.

Another reason why I appreciate your portrayal of her back in her heyday, when she was a strong, confident person but also had a humanity to her. A little levity goes a long way, I feel like they should call them drama books instead of comic books, how seriously everything is taken now.
