Description
With Superman freed of Bedlam's influence, and his host body now shattered by his combat with Batman, it seemed as though the battle was over.

But Bedlam has one last trump card that he plays, summoning a boom tube he disrupts the portal, destroying his host body ( for a purely Psionic being, the loss of a host body is meaningless ) and turning the boom tubes incredible energies from a means of transport into a makeshift weapon with enough power to obliterate the USA that will erupt in mere minutes.

As the Justice leagues scientists ( Batman, Blue Beetle, the Atom ) desperately think of a means to stop it, Captain Atom already knows what has to be done, and he doubts he will survive the choice he is about to make...Powergirl senses this and before he can make his move, she steals a goodbye kiss from him.

The end of this series approaches for the time being, with one or two more pictures to go, and since this is not remotely cannon i decided to couple up Captain Atom and Powergirl because it was one of those pairings i thought made sense ( he's mature in character, and won't accidentally break if she hugs him with too much enthusiasm for instance ).
