Description Having effectively nothing to do in the current 'rebirthed' DCU, the two heroes take some time off.

A redrawing of sorts of an earlier image from 2014 and a continuation of my pairing of these two characters ( which i think still works better than any of the characters official/canon relationships ).

Lucky Captain Atom.  Lucky, LUCKY Captain Atom.

Quite an impressive picture.  It convincingly conveys the tremendous amount of power that Kara has at her command.  She certainly seems to employ that power with enthusiasm.  It's great to see her in an emotional situation that she's clearly enjoying. Even if it's not me on the receiving end.  (sigh)

Again, lucky Captain Atom!

In typical soap fashion, I could imagine Cap's supercriminal/terrorist ex wife trying to cause trouble.

I tripped over this pic on Pinterest and decided to write a comment from my DA account.

I was a fan of Captain Atom since DC gave him his own issue in the 80s. I became a fan of Power Girl when they gave her her own issue in the 2000s.  This is a truly grand ship and I'm happy to sail it.  Nate Adam is a great choice or Power Girl.  There aren't many DC men that she could really bearhug without hearing things like "Ack...Karen...something's breaking..."

Writers don't often address what it means for any super-strong, super-tough character to live in a tissue-paper world that you can't really touch without breaking.  Captain Atom is someone Power Girl can playfully punch in the arm without worrying about shattering his shoulder.  Being able to let down that constant caution, just for a little while, would have to be a profound relief.

There seems to be a few of us around here who have a genuine affection for Power Girl besides genuine affection for her boobs (won't lie, I'm in both groups)

In a weird way I'm sort of happy Peeg isn't in DCs universe right now.  She's been put on the shelf.  It's safe on the shelf.  At least they aren't doing to her what they're doing to Wonder Woman...

I now regard the New 52 character in the Earth 2 comics as basically Supergirl in white while the actual Power Girl was the one who featured last year in Harley Quinn, and given how fluid DC's continuity is now, i could be right.

I was a fan of both Captain Atom and Power Girl from back in the late 1980's, i enjoyed their sparring and banter in their Justice League Europe days and i enjoyed their interactions in the 2010/11 Generation Lost story, they were firm friends to the end who i felt could so easiliy have been a couple.

I have to admit, I've not been the biggest fan of the revised Wonder Woman, i felt the New 52 Zeus origin did disservice to the character.

Thanks for the comment

You continue to amaze me in depth of love you put into your version of Powergirl.

The New 52 did her a great disservice, removing her from friends and shipping her off to Earth-2 to fight Darkseid and his minions who ended up destroying Earth-2 and placing her and surviving heroes in an escape starship and then leaving it unresolved because they felt she was not politically correct due to her voluptuous figure.  They didn't realize the depth of feeling DC fans had for Kara Rao, aka Karen Starr aka Power Girl.  The one and only true Power Girl, not the substitute they tried to introduce, again, to be "politically correct".

They also separated her from her protege and love(r), Terra Atlee, which I thought to be one of the callous bits of editorial apathy I've witnessed.  In an era when the rest of the world has recognized that same sex couples were as capable of love and affection, they discarded the relationship that Amanda Conners and others had gently nurtured.

Yes, I realize DC has (grudgingly) returned her to Earth-2, coming up with this wild series with Harley Quinn, having PeeGee experience a memory loss while having humorous adventures.  And, though I purchased the initial "Convergence" Action Comics with Superman, I haven't yet read it, and need to catch up. Apparently, it has something to do with (Metropolis?) being placed under a large dome by Lex Luthor (talk about stealing a plot from TV), and the heroes not knowing it is there (yet).  What, Superman never flies out of the atmosphere? Please, gimme a break.  Very poor plot device, and especially poor writing.

The current "Supergirl" series on CBS is doing a much better job, and it is "PG-rated" enough for kids while still doing a nice job of presenting the story. However, DC needs a makeover, similar to what Joss Whedon did with the Marvel Universe.  Whedon is the master of his medium, (BTVS, Angel, Firefly, Serenity) and has the same movie enthusiasm for the Marvel Universe that Stan Lee had for the comics.

Adam, never stop doing your Powergirl, I would be lost without her!

Thanks

The more i think about it, the more i think calling Power Girl Karen Starr ( or the shortened 'Kara' to her friends ) is better than Kara Zor-L or my fan made  Kara Rao, mostly because she never really displayed any real interest in Krypton or it's heritage, being much closer to Earth.

Well, Atlee made a recogniseable appearance in Starfire, so there is that at least.

Convergence was disappointing, i can't think of anything i read from that event story being particularly good.

It's odd that so many of the DC TV series seem to be closer to the spirit of the comics than the DC movies, i can't think of a current DC TV series that isn't rather watchable.

I read a review of the Covergence Action comics in which the reviewer was disturbed PeeGee was worrying about putting on weight; to the reviewer it was totally out of character for her to complain about it.

The pair had a solid friendship from their 1989 Justice League days that endured right up to 2010/2011's 'Justice League - Generation Lost', their verbal sparring and general behavior always tended to make me think it wouldn't have taken much to push the characters into a relationship ( other than their respective bad luck in romances ) .

It's my own idea based on their old DCU interactions. They became good friends after a confrontational start and i just thought it wouldn't need much of a push.
