Description
Client: Wildstorm EntertainmentMedia: Pencil, Ink, and Adobe Photoshop
A cover for Alan Moore's VOODOO miniseries back in the 90s. I did 3 covers for this 4-issue miniseries, and WS asked me to do it in an Art Nouveau style because it matched the approach that interior artist Michael Lopez had come up with.

It was the noveau style and the colorscheme that made me want to have a closer look
There are lots of things to look at like the hair () and those roses! Very wonderful

Always love a nod to the Art Nouveau style, doesn't get as much love as it deserves.

It's amazing how early-morning sleepy-peaceful you can make an image that has hissing snakes and skulls. Gorgeous work!

I love that this is in a Nouveau approach. The colors and the background are great, and especially nice touches with the snakes, since the voodoo god, Dahmballa, only possesses and speaks through women, and only women can hold and preform the magic of voodoo. (Not many people know this, and Disney's new movie kind of bugs me because of this.) I also appreciate how the woman isn't a little skinny twig-thing; she is muscular and athletic. Over all, fantastic work and thank you for sharing this with us.

Yeah, I do my homework before I start assuming I know things about shady cultures, ha ha. Especially ones we still don't know a lot about.

That's awesome. Most people are just assume that vodoo is all about people jumping up and down and acting like "monkeys" while they worship satan or something.

I know! Or cutting off snake heads and drinking the blood, which a voodooienne would never do. People just like to assume they know everything about anything and therefore they can't be argued with. Pfft. Stupid people, get all the facts first.

That's so true.
Yeah, I thank Hollywood for some of the bad portrayals.
That and a lot of people just don't care to learn about anything else that doesn't have to do with Europe.

Yeah, Hollywood ruins a lot of stuff just so it can fits its idea. And the whole Europe thing is true. There is so much more rich, amazing history in the world but everybody always wants to ignore it. That's aggravating.

That's why I've given up on watching any of the crap that comes out of Hollywood a long time ago. 90's movies was great (Beverly Hills Cop!!!), but after that, everything just went downhill.
I know, it's damn irritating.

Very true. Except for the random anomalies like Avatar, which is a technological and artistic phenomena. I actually like it more for the fact that the story is STRONGLY based on the Native American and European conflict. Being part Native American myself, it was a movie that resonated strongly with me (I pretty much cried through the whole thing, like a total girly-girl. Not the best moment in my life, ha.). Very few movies from Hollywood are actually good anymore. It's sad but true.

Exactly. And yeah, I actually got the Native/European conflict thing.
The art was great, but there was just a lot of I didn't like; it was a decent movie to me, personally, but I think they could've done better with the story, IMHO. I mean, princess marries some strange foreign dude? How many times have we heard that story?
LOL, not even comedy movies are good anymore. They just try TOO hard, and the humor is just overly unnecessarily sexual and just plain crude.

Agreed. What is the world coming to? Hollywood is running out of good ideas--I think that's why they are now making all the comic books into movies. Go figure, right? There's got to be an original out there somewhere.

If all else fails, we still got the good old movies from before everything started to suck.
There's also some pretty good movies from India, Nigeria, etc. that are worth watching, and they STILL come up with new stuff (especially India!) , despite the thousands of movies that come out everyday.

I drew it so long ago, I had to look at it again to see what you meant...
I think I was going for the idea that she is kneeling along the plane of the words; all the drapery on her right side (closest to us) falls in front of the letters, and all the drapery on her left falls behind the letters.
