Description Someone just sent me a note asking "WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW!"

Well, when someone 'asks' you a question in ALL CAPS and with an exclamation mark instead of a question mark, what can you do except take a screen capture of your desktop while you are working.

If you are the person who sent me said imperative request... here you go.

Hit Caps Lock off, and try some de-caf.

were you using the blur tool to get that glow effect on the whip, whatever you were using it seems brilliantly simple.

It's a feathered selection using the Lasso tool, and applying color set to Screen or Linear Dodge mode.

lol I can't be bothered to write that down but I'm going to do my best to remember that XD because it seems like a really nifty technique!

I really like how you change the color of the black, inked contour lines and areas such as nostrils so they're not as strong to the eye. I was wondering what method you use to do this in CS2 and how you can use it to make separate selections for areas like the lasso, hair, and skin.

AdamHughes In reply to Sektor2814 [2009-03-16 04:39:55 +0000 UTC]

I keep my lineart as a Channael, a saved selection. Anytime I want to make lines into colored lines, I just select the lines, delete them from my lineart channel, and then with the selection still active, I color in it on the Layer my colors are one (usually the Background Layer).

That's Finnish (not my native language) for "beautiful".

How do I write 'thank you' in Finnish?

-AH!-

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Dietrich-March In reply to AdamHughes [2009-03-11 22:38:04 +0000 UTC]

Kiitos (pronounced KEE-toss) = "thank you" in Finnish

EipΓ€ kestΓ€ (AY-pah KESS-tah, but say the ah's like a New Yorker) = "you're welcome"

If you model Selina Kyle's face on Audrey Hepburn's, who do you model Wonder Woman's face on? I love that your piece of yours in ImagineFX where Wonder Woman is gasping in shock at seeing her 'old' self.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AdamHughes In reply to Dietrich-March [2009-03-12 04:28:02 +0000 UTC]

Wonder Woman isn't based on any one person, sadly. I was lucky to have Audrey Hepburn as an inspiration for my take on Selina Kyle, but my version of Wonder Woman isn't based on any one person.

Thank you for the language help!

I mean, "Kiitos!"

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Dietrich-March In reply to AdamHughes [2009-03-12 16:03:48 +0000 UTC]

EipΓ€ kestΓ€.

I recall, too, the quote from the article about you in ImagineFX: "I'd like to draw a woman so beautiful you want to avert your eyes." When I see your renditions of Wonder Woman and Dejah Thoris, I feel like averting my eyes...but I don't.

And Selina Kyle in your avator looks like she's saying: "Oh my!"

Out of context this one. But it was a reply when someone asked you to do a step by step whit your paintings.

I'm anxious to see the work finished. One reason because I love the way you draw Wonder Woman and the other reason is, arguing from the "preview" you gave, that I'm sure I'll use your picture as a gesture reference for a draw I'm doing.
Great work

I mean, is it digital? It looks so perfect, and at the same time so free(not sure IΒ΄m making sense )... the way those curves are done it looks digital...but IΒ΄m just not sure...

Thank you for being an inspiration and for sharing all this!

Adam, do you color in CMYK? Are your swatches based on the "recognized" comic colors (I forget how many those are)? Perhaps you can share your palette as a resource here on DA?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AdamHughes In reply to elindir [2009-02-26 06:28:51 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I color in CMYK. If you're coloring for print purposes, I think it's kinda essential. RGB Mode should be used only for web and video-based applications.

My current swatches started out based on printable comic colors, but it's been added on to so much it's now a disorganized mess. I wish PS had a way to easily re-organize swatches.

Adam Hughes, from Page 1 of the comments: "It's taking me forever to do everything myself, so I don't want to make any promises."

Doing everything yourself? Are you colouring the interior pages now as well?

I always get a kick out of your work, Adam, and I'm looking forward to All-Star Wonder Woman! One request, if I may; make sure when DC does the collected edition, they have a sketchbook section in there like Mignola's Hellboy TPBs; I love seeing how these projects develop.

HK.

Adam, you and your work are an absolute inspiration.

I was wondering, have you seen the Wonder Woman DVD yet, and if so.. what did you think?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AdamHughes In reply to Redmasker [2009-02-26 05:12:12 +0000 UTC]

I actually haven't seen the DVD.

Partly because I'm avoiding any and all Wonder Woman material while working on ALL-STAR WONDER WOMAN, so that I can keep myself 'on the path', as it were.

But mostly I'm avoiding it because I was signed up to do the box art and they dumped me at the last minute to go with different art.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Redmasker In reply to AdamHughes [2009-03-08 06:55:36 +0000 UTC]

Well, if someone bought or rented the DVD based on your cover art the animation would be a huge letdown, so maybe it worked out for the better!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AdamHughes In reply to Redmasker [2009-03-08 14:41:45 +0000 UTC]

I don't know...

By all my friends' comments, the film is pretty hardcore, with lots of violent PG-13 action. I'm told 40+ people get killed in the first 10 minutes.

What's more misleading - my DVD art on a Bruce Timm-style cartoon, or JUSTICE-LEAGUE-style cartoon DVD art on a film that is drastically more adult & violent than any previous WB/DC animated project?
