Description Someone just sent me a note asking "WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW!"

Well, when someone 'asks' you a question in ALL CAPS and with an exclamation mark instead of a question mark, what can you do except take a screen capture of your desktop while you are working.

If you are the person who sent me said imperative request... here you go.

Hit Caps Lock off, and try some de-caf.

I was actually referring to the organic and naturalistic quality of your art vs. the compromised, angular and overall uninspired look of the Wonder Woman movie. Your art has an inherent coquettish charm and fluid elegance that would raise a potential viewer's expectations, which the movie's character design could not hope to meet. I could see your art on a cover for an animated film like Tarzan or Pocahantas, because I feel that the draftsmanship, design and animation of those movies are more in line with the inherent quality of your work. The Wonder Woman in the movie didn't really exhibit any of the personality that your characters are infused with. Also, boobs.

Wicked Response for the Caffeinated Questioneer:

"I'M WORKING ON ART! Next Question."

That was kind of you to give in to. Heehee

Also, you have my sympathies with trying to explain the layers/channels thing. An idea might be to direct them via link to where you've explained it before, and let it be?

I wonder how someone has trouble getting from tonal to full color? It's the same principles?...I guess they mean they were having trouble making the full colored pieces look as nice as the tonal ones. I just want to figure out how to make it look as if I've painted, instead of cell shaded.

The price of fame....I tell you, between that and the art thieves it makes you want to stuff your head under the sheets and keep your art in your closet for your own covetous needs. But we can't, we're attention whores in our own way...

Anyway..yeah. Wonder Woman! You are my favorite artist when it comes to her. She always looks so lovely, and heroic. It's important for her to not look like a copy of Superman in a bathing suit. At least, for a woman who likes her premise.

Thank you very much for your kind words and support.

I WOULD link them, but I've never explained it anywhere else! I guess I'll do a FAQ entry and send them there all the time... I think the trouble people encounter is that the initial change from gray to color pixels leaves a lot of muddy pixels that make the piece look like, well, a colorized B & W image. There's lots of techniques for cleaning them up, all easy to show in person, none easy to type out....

Thanks for the kind words on Wonder Woman; I'm trying really hard to make her special.

You're welcome. I'm the kind that doesn't say it unless it's true. (Or I feel it's true.. guess that's subjective...)

Ah ha, I've forced you into thinking of more work...that wasn't my intent! But a FAQ sounds great, none the less. I'm sure a bunch of people would appreciate that assistance. Might help slow down the miles of people asking you questions when you can linkie everyone

I think that'd be wise to ask ANY teenager. If they're being polite, something is amiss in Denmark.

But hey, I'm trusting and innocent, see, and I'll just take it as you're just really polite all the time!

This is extremely helpful. I'm in the process of learning how to color my work, too. I still haven't found that comfort zone.

I've noticed that you created more Channels that can be loaded whenever you need to isolate a certain area.

If you don't mind me asking, what channels do you generally create when you breakdown your color pieces?

I see there's one for line art. I'm assuming there's one for flats, too, but you've got a ton of them.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AdamHughes In reply to HBRIII [2009-02-24 19:59:04 +0000 UTC]

I save selections as Channels for any areas of color that, once rendered, would be too hard to re-select with the Lasso or even the Magic Wand.

My Channels usually are:

C, M, Y, & K

Lineart (keeping your lineart as a Channel instead of a Layer saves on memory usagel which hets important on higher-resolution images)

Copy of Lineart (in case I need to do anything that aids in coloring, but I don't want to affect the art; also, if i knock out lines of art to color, I like having a copy of the original lines somewhere easily and quickly 'grabbable'

Any Selections I Want to Save

Also, there's a trick to saving your flats as a single Channel.... look at each of your individual color channels after you are done flatting. The one that shows the most tonal ranges of grays, in the most areas, then just make a copy of that Channel & rename it "Flats". It's a good trick; thanks to X-MEN artist Paul Smith for sharing it with me!

Just too sweet! Your painting skills show through and the The tones and how smooth the tones /gradient merge into one another... The cheeks, the nose, the lips... just a wonderful masters hand

Do you use smudge, airbrush, its just amazing how you can really get those skin tones so organic.

AdamHughes In reply to AronMorales [2009-02-23 19:13:01 +0000 UTC]

For me, I just hit the 'rt Scr/Sys Rq' button, which on my keyboard is just to the right of the F12 key. It takes a capture of your entire desktop and saves it to your clipboard.

Then, I just open a new document in Photoshop and hit 'aste'.

dual monitors are technically two monitors next to each other. i have two 19".
and my desk is like this: [link]

a single 23" display is big for me.
