Description
acrylic, 2006 (an older piece)This piece is based on a Siberian Folk Tale called "The Girl Who Watched in the Night", in which this particular girl lassoes a fox who has been kidnapping her cousins, and demands that he lead her to her kin.
Originally, I illustrated this same scene from a normal angle, level with the girl. My illustration teacher told me that it didn't convey the movement of running through the woods; it was too static. So I went back and tried again from a different angle, and this is what I produced. So, I'm thankful that my teacher was honest and coaxed me to try again, because I like this version much better than the first.
Thank you all for the wonderful comments! Your words mean a lot to me! And thank you to ~C-Ungol and ^De-Profundis for the DD, I'm honored!

This is a winner - as well as the amazing perspective, the shadows give a sense of movement, and the colouring is brilliantly stark.

This is a great angle! It's nice to see such an unusual perspective used so well, it's refreshing and distinguishes it from most other boring angle work

Ahaha! Exactly!! It's such a forced perspective, I even have a hard time looking at it, without the downward perspective...it's really hard!
Beautiful piece! Love the trees!
