Description Wouldn't you just love to live in one of those houses and to be able to watch this from your front veranda.

Whale Watching In Albany
The last whale was taken at Albany on the 20th of November 1978 and now, tourists come from all over the world to see the Southern Right and Humpback Whales as they cavort in the warm waters off Albany, Western Australia..

Western Australia stopped slaughtering whales due to pressure from conservation groups, but the Japanese are still slaughtering the whales illegally in the remote southern waters off the coast of Antarctica, which is a Whale Sanctuary.

Southern Right Whales are now listed as an Endangered species and they are very easy to catch because they are slow swimmers.

If you want to help save these wonderful creatures, visit this website [link] too support Sea Shepherd
and Greenpeace at [link] The whales need all the help they can get.

The day I went whale watching there were about twelve Southern Right whales swimming in King George Sound, and I should have been able to get some great pictures. But unfortunately, I chose a day when photographers from the local tech were having a day out, plus a coach load of tourists. Normally, it would be easy to walk around the boat, following the whales whichever side they appeared, but this time, once you found a spot near the rail, it was wise to stay where you were.

As you watch these beautiful creatures, it is a horrifying thought that once the whalebones and baleen were used for umbrellas, corsets, skirt hoops, whips etc.

Great shot! If I had a spare couple of mill I would love one of those houses. My 400mm lens would come in really handy for taking whale photos from the patio

If ever I come up big in the lottery, you will find me somewhere there too. I would be able to afford a better lens too.

Yes it is and although this is my third year, it was the best so far. Last year I didn't see one single whale.

When we went to the San Juan Islands, I didn't expect to see orcas, but I was pleasantly suprised with lots of them passing by rather close to shore.
The only whale I've seen in the wild is when I was down in California and a humpback whale and her calf had gone up a river and ended up in Sacramento. I went and stood with the other hordes of people who had come to see the pair. I didn't get to see much, but it was still a cool experience.

Excellent shot!

I still have to see my first up close.
Seen quite a few go up the coast here,
on the distance.

Britain packed up whaling in '66, and the main company, Christian Salverson, turned to refrigeration trucking

What an awesome sight

Like everything man has used for his needs in the past, whale products really don't need to be utilized anymore. Man could give up a taste for it like they did when Crude oil became a viable alternative to whale oil and blubber.
