Description
Although I didn't get to photograph a whole whale out of the water, I was pretty pleased with this one.Whale Watching In Albany
The last whale was taken at Albany on the 20th of November 1978 and now, tourists come from all over the world to see the Southern Right and Humpback Whales as they cavort in the warm waters off Albany, Western Australia..
Western Australia stopped slaughtering whales due to pressure from conservation groups, but the Japanese are still slaughtering the whales illegally in the remote southern waters off the coast of Antarctica, which is a Whale Sanctuary.
Southern Right Whales are now listed as an Endangered species and they are very easy to catch because they are slow swimmers.
If you want to help save these wonderful creatures, visit this website [link] too support Sea Shepherd
and Greenpeace at [link] The whales need all the help they can get.
The day I went whale watching there were about twelve Southern Right whales swimming in King George Sound, and I should have been able to get some great pictures. But unfortunately, I chose a day when photographers from the local tech were having a day out, plus a coach load of tourists. Normally, it would be easy to walk around the boat, following the whales whichever side they appeared, but this time, once you found a spot near the rail, it was wise to stay where you were.
As you watch these beautiful creatures, it is a horrifying thought that once the whalebones and baleen were used for umbrellas, corsets, skirt hoops, whips etc.
