Today's blast from the past: An old (2001) sketch of Manji and Rin from Hiroaki Samura's fantastic manga Blade of the Immortal. Manji's face is plagued by fairly severe symmetry issues (plus, one of his hands looks okay, while the other doesn't), but regardless, I like the overall composition of the piece.Alas, the photocopy I scanned this from nipped the edges off the sketch, hence the disappearing blade at left. (Speaking of blades, my shading choices on Rin's "Golden Wasp" knives makes it seem as if she's holding a whole bunch of open lipstick tubes, but maybe that's just me.)

Any facial symmetry issues Manji might be having can be explained by his having TWO EYES. Clearly he's hacked off part of some dude's skull and grafted it on to his own, here. o_0
Curious: What would you choose to do differently now on something like Rin's Wasps? I always admire your shading, and small blades are tricky!

Manji lost his left eye at the beginning of the story! Why does he have both his eyes in the picture?

Great composition. Manji looks a bit... zombified here. Probably just the pose, the shadowy eyes, and the wrinkly hand.

...Man. Rin is short. Though this is a pretty good example of different male/female builds I think. Very well done. (though they both look pretty sharp with the knives).
Manji's face isn't to bad, he always was supposed to be a scruffy looking bastard.
