Description
Behold, an old sketch I recently unearthed, probably done as an early rough for the issue #1 cover from the miniseries DIRTY PAIR: RUN FROM THE FUTURE. I assume that this layout didn't get used because, well, Kei and Yuri didn't use really use guns (or at least conventional ones, anyway) all that much in this particular miniseries. BTW, those rectangular thingies floating above the pistols are supposed to be holographically projected sighting grids... Wheee.I'm guessing that this piece dates back to 1999 or thereabouts, judging by the pre-millennial facial structures I was using; note the presence of a more clearly defined nose than what I draw currently, no doubt to some folks' chagrin... (Too bad for said folks, as I'm the only one who actually gets a vote on how I draw noses.)
Also notable is the fact that Kei and Yuri are remarkably slim-hipped in this old sketch, compared to the much more fulsomely "hippy" (if you'll pardon the term) approach I prefer to take nowadays. Indeed, to paraphrase the stylings of Good Sir Mix-A-Lot, red beans and rice appear to have missed this particular version of the Dirty Pair...
Anyhoo, I still kinda like the DP's poses here, which are taken from some photoref I shot (hi, Elin!) lo these many years ago... I might just copy from this rough and redraw it with my current set of artistic preferences at some point, just for the heck of it.

I was just looking through the Dirty Pair stuffs again and appreciating your work on them again. There seems something really tight about the design aesthetic overall on this DP image of the girls, I think it makes them look athletic. Thanks for this still being posted.

Hi. I'm a first-year student in college studying digital media arts. I have a character illustration assignment that requires me to ink out an artist's rough sketch in Illustrator. I admire your artwork and this is something I'd love to ink out for my assignment. I'd like to reassure you that I will not be making any profit from this assignment; it is strictly for learning and educational purposes and you will be credited for your work. Upon completion, it will be posted on a WordPress production blog used for school. I can show you the finished product once it is completed as well.
It would be great if you could let me know what you think of this.
Thank you!

Funny thing you should mention the slim-hipped style. It's one of the things I really like about this drawing. That's some beautiful work on those lovely ladies!

Haaa!
Even thou you indeed pretty much "evolved" your style, it's good to see them back.
Line flow is as usual very erotic (curves).
Also funny how you couldn't resist to draw the bust throu the arm ^^
This dirty pair will always remain one of the most charismatic character arround! Thanks for sharing

Gosh, I love your Dirty Pair. This picture looks nice, but it is quite remarkable to see how much your art style has evolved since then. I'd love to see you do a new take on this picture.
Thanks for sharing!

I've always been a fan of your Dirty Pair work. Some of the best drawn and written sci-fi around.

Was this from soon after you stopped drawing these for yourself and started drawing them for money so you could pay the rent? I heard you got hooked up by a guy who went on to be an X-Men colorist.

Ru-ru-ru... Russian... Russian... "Rolletto"...
And amazingly enough, the only comic made by Adam Warren available in the 'specialized' comic store near my home is a COLOR version of dity Pair: Biohazards

"Old DIRTY PAIR" There's a joke about testicles in there but I just can't seem to come up with a good one.
Shamefully I never read your Dirty Pair stuff. I didn't discover the fun of Adam Warren until about Gen 13 Bootleg. Which I don't have the following two issues you did after the first one of Grunge's movie idea.
Are there Dirty Pair paperback compilations out there or do I have to search back issue bins?

There are indeed trade-paperback compilations for all six of the DP miniseries I did, but most of them are currently out of print... I think the TPB for the colorized version of DIRTY PAIR: SIM HELL might still be available; at least, I recall that appearing in the "other stuff by Adam Warren" section at the back of various volumes of EMPOWERED. Still, I'd imagine the TPBs would be easier to dig up than the 30-odd individual issues...

The fact that you can take essentially simple line work and give it so much depth and complexity with out the actual line art have to be extremely detailed is a skill of yours i envy and for the life of me cant figure out how to do on my own...
but for the record i think kei would greatly benefit from a more toothy menace smile.

Now if we could only get new Dirty Pair material on say, a monthly basis. Maybe even in comic book form. *nudge nudge wink wink*
