This is just to give a bit of a helping hand for people who want to draw owls and want to clean up some common mistakes
I really can't stress this enough; OWLS DO NOT HAVE CROW FEET. So stop it. Just stop.
Also, many parrots have two talons x two talons and Ospreys and such.. so if you're planning on drawing ANY bird, make sure you check what their feet look like! ( Or I'll hunt you down and gut you like a fish D: )
No, there's no wings on this tutorial. Mainly because people seem to get so distracted by wings they screw up everything else. That and there's a bazillion wing tutorials out there.

Thanks for this... I have always been under the impression that they had crow-like feet, but rotated their talon backward. I had it mixed up.

Aw this tutorial(and the other ones you've done) is great! It's great to have a guide on not-so-popular animals for people who are getting tired of all the dogs and cats. I also like the 'what not to do' parts for common mistakes...

The red one's face you could probably get away with for cartoon personification's sake, but The rest of the body looks like it belongs to another bird. o_o;;;
This was really helpful. I watched the ga'hoole movie (good movie, not like the books but you can tell they put a lot of effort into it) yesterday, and was itchin' to draw owls.
I didn't know about the feet thing. :'D

yeah xD I mean if you're going to draw an owl, cartoon or not, you should try to get some of the characteristics of an owl and not just a misc bird.

now a days you see a lot of anatomy mistakes in animal drawings, and I find that a lot of these "mistakes" are just stylized birds/ wolves etc. (because everyone has their own style) but things like incorrect feet and oddly proportioned tails are just signs of laziness from the artist p:
