Description I have created this as part of my final assignment as a complimentary task.

I have not designed this tutorial for the average illustrator user. You need to know how to use the pen tool and other basic features of illustrator.

All u need to know to making a vector is in here, however I cannot guarantee a perfect vector, as practise makes perfect.

Please let me know if you find bugs and spelling/grammatical errors as I have awhile before I have to submit it.

Please let me know if you follow it or if it helps as it will make the time I spent on it worth while.

Thank you for a very clear and informative tutorial. I don't understand the thing you explained about the pathfinder though, to make the shadows stay inside the other path, I might be doing something wrong...

Great tutorial!! I've been trying to figure out on my own how to draw people realistically in vector and this way makes it easy. Thanks so much!!

Really useful tutorial; thanks for making it. I'm just starting out with vectors and this is a great insight into the-making-of a great, rich image. Many tutorials aim a bit low I find, but this one makes me want to go back to it again and follow just because the end-result looks so good. It offers a juicy challenge.

I'm still unclear about how to build up shading using different opacities; some zoomed in close-ups would be welcome on the sections when you deal with building up the shading with the hair and the skin.

Lastly though, the interface drips with professionalism. As soon as the page started loading up Flash and the interface appeared I got the wow factor. Excellently put together.

Thanks sooo much once again!

That would be very much appreciated.

I'm tinkering around with stuff in Illustrator on my own as much as I can; that's how I taught myself Photoshop. But with vectors it really does give a better insight when you can pick at the innards of what makes up an image.

Would I need to PM you with an email address?

hey there thanks for the awesome tut, i was getting stuck hardcore on getting skin tones right i didn't know u could use a blend tool. Quick question, what's the best way to layer colours? lightest to darkest (+ transperencies) or the other way around? i've been confused by that

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AdRoiT-Designs In reply to Age-Solo [2006-11-06 04:51:39 +0000 UTC]

Hi there, sorry for the late reply! The blend tool is just one way to get the effect happening, Click the 2 shapes and then use the blend tool, then use specified steps and choose about 4-6. The go object expand and then ungroup it a couple times. and then U can see all the different layers. i have the lightest tones on the top layers try and have the lightest transpanecy on the top.

Good luck!

well done

do you need shadows and/or transparency...i would really like to see this, but i'm on linux and don't have flashplayer 8...can you export it with flashplayer 7 settings (and maybe upload it to scraps) or will this "destroy" the tutorial? i also work with Inkscape and would like to try your tutorial, thanks

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AdRoiT-Designs In reply to needcoffee [2006-09-27 02:51:52 +0000 UTC]

The tutorial uses a lot of the features in v8. Eporting it to 7 does destroy it, almost nothing is visible. Sorry for that...

You make the image in Illustrator --
the actual tutorial was made in Adobe Flash.
Looks like a decent amount of work to me.

i have never heard of inkscape, as long as u can have low transparency layers it can be done i am sure.

SKaRTeH In reply to ??? [2006-07-27 09:59:43 +0000 UTC]

Does that include spelling complementary wrong in the description? Babooow!

As for in the piece I've found:
Hair, 3rd section you used "Pallet" meaning "Palette"
Scene, 3rd section before end you used "Accept" in the context of "Except"

Thats all I can find and I doubt theres more. I didn't really check grammar cuz you typed too much spelling was easier to check not that it was spelling as such just stuff that the spellchecker wont pick up.

Tips section is great that could be a submission on its own.
