Description
This Unit is part of the same Universe as the rest of my mechs. This one was made for me by shinypants for the for the crossover quest The Lords of Ruin .

The Exploratores are like the Equites part of the second generation of mechs that the Helghan Republic has developed. Unlike the Equites that was built off of the MAWLR and Quad mech ideal the Exploratores is a refinement of the bipedal mech design. More agile and quicker than either the Titan or the Princeps the Exploratores is meant to be a scout/sniper mech. The use of the newly developed Endo-Steel Structure boosted the weight saving available. The final refinement was the hand actuators that allowed for fully "life-like" hands instead of the former claws on the Princeps.

The Exploratores is capable of cruising at a speed of 65 kph and sprinting at 97 kph when needed with its 210 rated engine. It also came equipped with 4 light jump jets giving it the ability to move upto 120 meters at a time. As this mech wasn't built with any Petrusite weapons it functions the same no matter what engine type it is equipped with. Due to the more limited nature of the Petrusite reserves and mining Fusion Engines are the Primary power source for the Exploratores. There has been some interest in developing a lighter Petrusite cannon in order to increase the firepower of the light mech that would require the use of a Petrusite reactor but so far there has not been much success.

The main weapon is Helghast Loki Pattern Large Laser. Like with the other Laser weapons developed by the Helghan Republic this Large Laser also has increased range over that of the standard models. The Loki is able to fire and hit at 50% extra range over what is normal for the current models in the Inner Sphere. This laser allows the light mech to engage enemy forces far outside engagement zones. The Loki was developed into the form of a long rifle so that it can swapped easily if damaged or picked back up if stored.

As a back up system the light mech is also equipped with a pair each of Blitz Medium lasers and Hel Small lasers as well. Both with 100% and 200% extra range added. This gives the mech enough power to keep lighter faster threats away. Another bonus is the use of the shield which is able to be used as extra layer of armor during an escape.

To fulfil its role as a scout the Exploratores comes equipped with either a Helghan model TAG system to spot and target enemy positions for artillery and missile strikes. As well as with a advanced recon Camera in order to record and return valuable information to the main Helghan detachment on the planet.

Defense wise aside from the extra shield the Exploratores is equipped with Seven and a Half tons of standard level armor giving it top tier protection. Since the mech would either be using the Large Laser or the mediums plus small separately the heat was kept under control by the newly developed Double Heat Sinks. As the engine was able to install 10 weight free DHS more than enough heat management was available even with the use of the jump jets. The mech was also equipped with a small Helghan cockpit to save on weight.

Once the Exploratores was developed it became the standard light mech in all Helghan formations and supplemented the Equites already in use by the mech corps. The relatively cheap cost and effectiveness of the platform meant that many mechs are being built and distributed all over Helghan Space. While the light mech could be sold to others it was decided since the light mech market was already fairly crowded and the Equites was already being sold that the Exploratores would be primarily for Helghan use only. Though because there is no gag order on the sale of the Exploratores it is possible to acquire some if someone were to just ask. Which is how several mercenary companies that have worked for or had ties to the Helghan Republic have some in their inventories.

The advanced 2HR version of the Exploratores was seen as a major improvement in ability. Maintaining the structure of the endo-steel skeleton as well as the engine getting increased to a 280 rated XL fusion engine once it was developed allowed for the light mech to increase its speed to 86 kph cruise and 130 kph sprint. The addition of five jump jet also gave the mech vertical movement and allowed it to escape or to be more versatile in getting to over watch positions with an improved jump capacity of 150 meter.

The new varaint mech is also equipped with a less cramped but slightly heavier standard cockpit instead of the old compact one. For defenses it is planned to equip the Exploratores 2HR with the same 7.5 tons of standard armor plating. The scouting systems are also overhauled the recon camera is planned to be removed as the next generation comm and TAG systems perform the duty with the extra weight. The weapons are also get a slight reworking since the range of the Loki Large Laser gives it the role of a sniper it is maintained but the two small lasers are removed and replaced with a third Blitz Medium laser.
