Description
This medium mech is part of the same Universe as the rest of my mechs. This one was made for me by shinypants for the for the crossover quest The Lords of Ruin .

The Decanus was created as one of the new line of second gen advanced battlemechs. It was also built to be the new standard trooper mech for the Helghan Republic. Far more refined than either the Titan and Princep lines the Decanus is one of the most advanced mechs in the Periphery and the Inner Sphere. The Decanus also uses a new style head modeled after the helmets of the Helghan troopers.

At 55 tons the effective maximum standard armor it can be equipped with is ton and half tons. The armor is the newest version of Ferro-Fibrous developed by Mir Industrial Union equipped with Helghan style CASE. Developed as part of the research into Ferro-Fibrous it is able to be shaped and tempered easier allowing for larger amounts of the armor to be created for a lower price. With the amount of armor equipped the Decanus is as protected as some heavy mechs similar to the way the Hunchback is also equipped with armor on par with a heavy mech. Unlike the Hunchback the Decanus does have the endurance to last in a brawl.

The next of the new technologies developed is the new endo-steel chassis. Due to the vast amounts of low-G and zero-G facilities available to the Helghan Republic endo-steel production is a major industry and export market. The use of space based factories and the use of anti-gravity drives on the surface of worlds allows economy of scale to come into play. Helghan Endo-Steel is only a slightly more expensive to create than standard internal structures. While the Helghan Endo-Steel isn't any better than the rest being created by the Inner Sphere it lower cost means the the Republic and its allies are able to use it in higher quantities in respect to the size of their militaries. The mass saved by the new structure allows for more equipment to be installed.

Another piece of advanced technology installed into the Decanus is the use of Double heat Sinks. Twelve DHS give the Decanus more than enough heat dissipation for it use. With eleven of the Heat Sinks installed in the engines this means that only one need to be installed in the structure of the mech saving space. The DHS was reverse engineered from samples acquired during the Aurigan Civil War as well as the Royal equipment gained from the Nautilus outpost. As part of the ORDI alliance created between the Aurigan Coalition, Magistracy of Canopus, Taurian Concordat, and the Helghan Republic the DHS was a joint project that saw the wide spread dissimilation of the technology to all four nations in the Periphery. This gave the Periphery an edge that was sorely needed as the Inner Sphere was still a very real threat and with a much smaller total military required all units to be as strong as possible.

The firepower of the Decanus come in the form of energy and missile weapon systems. Using the newly acquired Pulse Laser technology four Flashfire MK II Medium Pulse Lasers were installed. Two in each arm give the Decanus a high powered punch. Due to the advanced quality of the lasers and the targeting suites in Helghan units the range of the pulse lasers are roughly a 1/4 better than normal medium lasers and double the range of the Star League standard Pulse lasers. The other main weapon is a pair of Stahl-5 Multi-Missile-Launchers in the side torsos of the Decanus. With two tons of ammo allowing for either a mix of LRM or SRM rounds or a pure load depending on what the mission requires allowing sustained combat operations for the Decanus.

The final bits of new technologies were not truly new but simply refined versions of what was already available. The electronics suite, jump jets, and targeting computer were the newest top of the line models that had been created. These proven technologies made more effective and reliable even if final performance was not improved to any great degree. The newest jump jets were built to be be easier to use and control allowing even new pilots to jump and land without issues. Five such jump jets give the Decanus a 150 meter jump range allowing it to get into and out of any fight it finds.

The Decanus is being deployed to the best front line formations replacing the older Princeps as the new standard medium mech. It is serving in those formations with new advanced models of the Titan, Exploratores, and Equites. There is also rumors that it is being added to new formation that have some newer unknown models. These new formations are apparently made up of three recent creations. The Decanus is one but the other is supposedly a Quad mech built off the style of the MAWLR. A 70-ton jumping heavy quad and a truly massive 90-ton assault quad that is meant to be a siege breaker, but is still in development.
