Description

A new custom 45-ton Battlemech created for me by StephenHuda for the crossover quest The Lords of Ruin . It is also the Mech that is mentioned in my previous Equites pictures.

This is the new standard Medium mech for the Helghan Republic. Obviously built off of the prior Titan mech. This 45 ton medium is built to sandblast other mechs and to rip apart infantry formations with its 7 Small Lasers. It is smaller and faster as it is meant to be a more refined design while still showing that the Helghan Republic is still learning about mech production. Since the Helghan Laser have the boosted range and the Helghan FCS is so advanced this thing acts as if it has Artemis IV FCS on the SRMs and like it is equipped with a Targeting Computer without having to install them. Making it a very deceptively powerful medium if no one pays attention.

Overview:
In the wake of the Titan's creation and deployment the Republic's Mech Development team were quickly tasked with expanding the Helghan military's mech stable with a less expensive and easier to pilot model as the Titan was noted to be somewhat of a challenge for less experienced pilots to operate.

With significant input from when the Marauders’ chief technician Yang Virtanen was still under the employ of the Republic and the company's medium mech pilots the Princeps was built as a simple mech intended to shine in the hands of both a novice and a veteran.

Capabilities:
The Princeps comes equipped with seven Helghan Hel-pattern Small Lasers with plus 200 percent enhanced range that is standard and two Stahl Arms/StA-S4 W.A.S.P micro-missile launchers (Helghan SRMs) for short-range punch. With 2 tons of ammo protected by Helghan style CASE capable of quick swapping for special ammo in the right torso. In addition the machine carries fourteen single heat sinks to maintain sustained laser fire indefinitely. The many small laser with their vastly increased range compared to normal means the Princep can fire earlier and with all its laser sandblast the armor of most light and medium mechs opening them up for the follow up W.A.S.P. missiles to destroyer the internal structure and critical systems.

Mounting the effective max amount of armor available for its frame at nine and a half tons the Princeps is as well protected as any medium mech in the Inner Sphere. The Princep mounts a smaller reactor/engine than what the Titan uses but the lowered tonnage means the speed is greater. It also comes equipped with 4 newly developed Helghan Jumpjets for a 120 meter jumping distance adding to it maneuverability. Like the Titan the Princeps also has the Helghan superior computer systems and targeting programs for both the Lasers and the missile systems. This gives the Princeps excellent accuracy and situational awareness. The greatest advancement made with the Princep over the Titan is the inclusion of lower arms and basic hands. This allows the unit to serve a greater variety of roles and functions. These hands while basic weren't the best that could be made but were the easiest and most effective ones by cost to ability metrics. Their development and construction would allow for the information and experience to make the more advanced hands cheaper to create allowing future mech designs to have more human-like hands.

Battle History:
Fully developed and entering production shortly after the Titan entered service the Princeps have seen major actions only with Helghan deployed forces or Mercenary commands. The Princeps have also been very useful in defending and countering the pirate attacks that still plague the Periphery. They have proven to be the armored fist the Helghan Republic needed to break the back of several pirate bands operating near their territory and expansion corridors.

Deployment:
Deployed alongside Titans the Princeps is a common sight on Republic worlds and colonies. Due to the experience and cheaper nature of the development of the Princep, it is also seen in more worlds and in greater numbers. There is some discussion on exporting the design to allied states but with native designs already available this is not considered to bear much fruit.

Variants:
Like the Titan there have yet to be any factory variant in production.

Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:
Not being the flagship design of the Republic and only seeing actions against mostly pirates limits the number of exceptional pilots. Those that do show promise are transferred to the Novas as elite of the Helghan pilots program.

Ok, you play BattleTech (HBS-version), which was obvious when you mentioned Yang Vitarnen, Chief MechTech of the Argo.
A max range of 6 isn't much of an add for a small laser, putting it within the realm of the Clan ERSml.

You never list the speed, so it's hard to guess the mech's effectiveness versus say, a Vindicator.

If it's faster, say at 54kph cruise, then it COULD close with a 'Vinny', bringing it's array of sunburn and hornet bites to good effect.

But, if it's the same speed (46kph), or worse, slower, Vinny will take it apart simply by staying more than 270m away and outside of the maximum range of the SRMs.

Nice artwork though. 😁
