Description
This is a streamlined standard suit of Power Armor for the Lords of Ruin Universe. This one was made for me by mattPLOG for the for the crossover quest The Lords of Ruin .Created as the next level of power armor development by the ORDI nations. The Man-at-Arms (MAA) is similar to the previous Minuteman but more advanced and with the components streamlined. Unlike the Minuteman that is barely acceptable, the MAR exceeded all of the original requirements by a fair margin.
The new suit also served as the best example of the technological renaissance that was occurring in the Periphery spearheaded by the Helghan Republic. Compared to the Star League power armor the MAA is on par with all features except for Stealth as the normal suit was not intended to be used in infiltration.
The MAA took a further four years of development beginning in 3033 and finishing development in 3036. By the end, the original minuteman series was already seeing widespread use in the ORDI. Because the MAA was designed to be a refined and upgradable version of the Minuteman the factories and support infrastructure were able to switch over to the production of the new suits. The new methods also allowed for the remaining Minuteman factories to streamline their own production allowing for that power armor to maintain a relativity decent production rate. While the MAR was the new mainline suit being deployed to all frontline units the remaining Minuteman suits were refurbished with new upgrades to the newer factory standards of the Minuteman and reassigned to second-line formations and militias all over the ORDI. This move was developed in order to create a more robust defensive line.
The deployment of the MAA came as a shock to everyone not involved in their development. The crude nature of the Minuteman made the rest of the nations underestimate the sophistication of the efforts being made in the Periphery. It also worried the antagonistic border nations of the ORDI as it provided a major boost to the defenses and made any conflict far bloodier than previous estimates. With certain Capellan successor states’ saber-rattling stopping for a while after the unveiling of the MAA equipped 1st Aurigan Rifles, 2nd Helghan Mechanized, 1st Canopian Grenadiers (Rebuilt as a mechanized infantry unit), and 2nd Concordat Commandos (newly formed and deployed to the Salient craved out of the CC during the 4th SW). The deployment of Regiments of Power Armored Troops making everyone rethink any aggressive action against the ORDI.
The MAA can equip the same heavy weapons as the older minuteman but with a higher hit percentage and a more stable platform. It also increased the users strength to a greater degree. The armored gloves and jump jets allowed the MAA to launch swarm attacks on mechs or death from above assaults on ground formations. The use of the MAA by dedicated pirate hunting units in the ORDI has smashed half a dozen pirate bands with little need for mech or heavy armor support.
Because the MAA is the standard armor suit developed any newer technology that would be developed was planned to be integrated into the armor system from the start. There are also attachment options available for the MAA for everything from stealth generators, hacking suites, silent running, and more for when they are used by special operations units. But these are separate technologies and not part of the suits themselves.
The MAA is slated to be the mainline armor for the Helghan Armed Forces at least and plans are in place to fully equip all the infantry with a suit. Even should more powerful and advanced suits be created the standard MAA will remain in widespread use as it combination of protection, cost, and versatility ensure it will always have a place in the Order of Battle of the HAF.
