Description Finished! Took a long time, but worth the results. Done with prismacolor pencils and graphite

Original line art (which is my own, but if someone else wants to color it, you can XD) is here: [link]

Anyone who is familiar with the original picture will see that the color scheme of the background is cooler; that is intentional, I added grey to basically all of it so Arwen would especially stand out.

Hardest part of the whole picture? The frakking floor, at least drawing it. Coloring wise, probably the face, to get all those tones. The bg was not bad at all, surprisingly.

Comments, critique, etc is appreciated.

You haven't seen Lord of the Rings?

...

You need to see the films! There is a reason the third one swept the Oscars! And yea, the book is bloody great, too. *is a Tolkien nerd*

My hand ranges from steady to "what did I just inhale why can't I stay still?" If I'm drawing at the time the latter happens I just hold my drawing hand with my other hand XD

HAHA I do that too. Holding my drawing hand with my other hand, that is. Except I don't really go beyond sketches very often.

Now I'm dying to watch the films.

Sorry for the delay in the reply

Oh, you should try going beyond sketches. I'm glad when I finally started... it really did me good.

Oh, yes, if you haven't watched the films by now I'm wondering why you haven't looked them up online yet They are long, but look at the book My edition of LOTR is 1000 pages long, single-spaced, like 10 11 pt font. Epic. And dude, Tolkien first wrote these all out on paper... and then typed it. On a typewriter. A friggin typewriter! So glad the computer was invented...

Circlejourney In reply to AinuLaire [2010-03-21 10:13:53 +0000 UTC]

HAHA I agree, one thousand pages is terrifying. And I read the same edition, I think--it's about 1200 pages long.

I know! I really want to watch the movie! But I think the movie deserves to be watched in high quality, so I'd rather see it on a nice big screen than on my laptop.

AinuLaire In reply to Circlejourney [2010-04-03 01:55:05 +0000 UTC]

Oh yea, they definitely deserve a big screen; I've watched them in theatres, on several sizes of TV, and my laptop, and they tend to really leave an impression on a large screen.

I'm surprised you haven't seen the films, they are rather infamous after all XD

This is amazing! I love her hair, it's much more beautiful than Liv Tyler's had been in the movies (and after all, I think that your painting here makes Arwen far more elvish than the movies did ). All right, that means I love it

Wow, thanks! Quite a compliment

Admittedly, the original ref photo, too, really was a great shot. I just enhanced it a little. XD

I just love her dress ! I like the whole scene actually. This is one of my favorite moments in the film.
I wish to have that kind of sitting room in my house.

And I would kill to have a room that looked like anything in Rivendell XD

Thanks for the comment/fave

Beautiful work! I've been debating whether to invest some money in prismacolor colored pencils! I hear they are the best. I've only used the "Verithin" prismacolor colored pencils kind which are considerably cheaper. What's your take on them? Are they worth the money?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AinuLaire In reply to Lizzy-Bell [2010-02-26 06:42:30 +0000 UTC]

Ah, yea, I used verithin like, once. Hated them. If you are looking to do many pictures with colored pencils, then prismacolor (the normal sort) is definitely one of the best brands. They're well worth the investment; you can't really blend with cheap color pencils, but you definitely can with prismacolor. It takes practice, but yea, I really enjoy them.

Cool! She looks great! I like the composition and the way it is balanced. Your proportions look good, and you did a fine job on the foreshortening of the day bed. You have a great range of values here with some excellent palette choices. It's a good piece of work!

is the floor intentionally set to be on a different perspective?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AinuLaire In reply to white2tattoo4 [2010-02-21 07:21:44 +0000 UTC]

What do you think? As I said in the deviation description, the floor was the hardest part, and in attempting to get the details it became a tad screwed.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

white2tattoo4 In reply to AinuLaire [2010-02-21 08:22:42 +0000 UTC]

ok i see well i like the picture and the red. i thought that the floor was on a different plan. it is a little high towards the back wall. i am not saying that it is bad, it actually helps with drawing the right attention to the picture beside the main focus, the girl.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AinuLaire In reply to white2tattoo4 [2010-02-21 09:49:06 +0000 UTC]

Ah, no, it's more trying to keep to the pattern and the perspective and ending up failing, though it could have been a lot worse xD Thanks for the attempt to make me feel better, though
