I think it's funny, but rarely true. Yeah, there are a lot of people out there who do this just to become popular. But, there are more people out there trying to create something just to get the images and words out of their heads and onto the paper. While the lesser experienced or artisticly challenged ones reference, copy and use parts of other anime, dark or other types of art to draw and write, they don't do it thinking "I'll copy this so that everyone will love it!" A lot of them just want to draw good, and they can't find any other way because they aren't as talented or as imaginative. So, even though this is funny, and a little true for a few people. I don't think it applies to very many people at all. While it may seem it does to you, it's only because you haven't taken the time to consider the anime artist and why they are drawing a similar picture as some one else. In the end, they're only drawing for themselves. I know I am. Favourites are nice and all, but favourites don't make you a better artist and everyone knows that.

Funny as hell man!!! But I am betting that it has alot of truth in it too. Unfortunate... What happend to just doing the work you love and letting that be that. Your work for instance, from what I have seen, is varied and imaginative! Both excellent qualities in and of themselves, but combine to bring out some awesome work, which I am going to peruse right about now.

good to know i'm not the only one bitching about the DD selections and the selection process.
its as if the only stipulation for a DD is an appeal to 'goth' style or 'fetish' imagery. between that and totally corny fan-art anime.
i keep expecting to get banned from DA for all the times i've sent messages to the help desk about it. or all the hate-mail i get back when i write something like "this is the most rediculous DD i've ever seen" on someone's STOCK photo of themselves in a corset and feather boa.
stock photos are not works of art of themselves. i wish people would stop picking them for DD's.
would it kill someone to think of VARIETY? or picking different artists instead of so many of the same ones?
i dont give a rip about getting a DD. i just dont like having to see crap on one side of the screen all the time just to browse what ISNT.
i know "deviant" might appeal to fetishism.. but that's not all.
