I normally would look at a picture and say that you made it too dark. But what really saves this picture is that you used a sharp black to make this picture and not a subdued black. Like what someone said earlier, the shine of the glass and the moderate lighting within the flowers really adds something magical to this picture. The purple colors that you used were perfect in this picture.
What is true is that plants still perform certain functions in the dark. I'm not going to explain it. But you are correct, plants have a secret life of their own in the dark.
This is a very sharp, elegant, yet graceful picture of a glass bowl with purple flowers.
