Description I did this in about two hours today, I had no idea the outcome. I'm using the Sparth/Vyle technique, in which you create complex brushes and just throw them around, it truly does spark the imagination.
Here I have a character throwing his arms up, either surrendering to the beauty or the chaos that he sees. Much like our own experience in the world, we too need to surrender at times to the beauty or horror that we see........alright, enough philosophizing, I hope you guys like it!

Have you ever thought about doing some artwork for use in video games or movies? Just wondering because you obviously have a great imagination and some of the things I have seen of your work would be awesome in a game or movie.

Another incredibly well executed piece, which is full of inspiration and obvious expertise.

I was wondering, when you create your pieces, do you find that you spend a fair portion of your time in creating your brushes, and when you do create them, to you look for miscellaneous stock photos or try a theme (ie., today's project will be a derlict ship, so the stock photos will be junkyard and salvage/recycling pics)?

AlexRuizArt In reply to McFilms [2007-01-29 05:07:16 +0000 UTC]

thanks McFilms... yeah, I'd say the brush making thing can take a while, depending on how detailed you make the initial drawing of it. It may look like a cool image, but when you make it a brush, it looks like crap So you start over, a lot of trial and error, but eventually you get something you like. As far as themes, it's always good to reference photos, Google rules!

Thanks for taking the time to answer!
Also:
Google was/is a great source, and then there's [link] where it is a search engine for free pictures and most are in the public domain. Other resources there can be under "limited use", but permission from the artist(s) are only an email away.

p.s.
*pssst!*

Keep your posts as text files for your book!!! I would absolutely buy the sucker!

I can't get my word on the background, on the other hand it's stunningly well done it has a slightly too expressionistic look to it.

It's a mixed bag of feelings, I like it but I'm staring at it trying to find something other than the man on the right.

Geez, what a piece. The patterns in the sky, though not exactly impressive on an artistic level, are still damn cool, and the man's stance, along with that stark staircase and the title of the piece, create an absolutely fantastic effect. The fact that you cooked this up in 2 hours just blows me away.

The only snag, if you could call it that, is the stuff at the top. Obviously, it couldn't just be bare, and it was filled pretty nice, but it seemed it could have been improved on. What I really didn't get though was the upside-down trees further to the right. That just struck me as weird and out of place (probably your intent. )

Never heard of Imagine FX Magazine... but I'll be hanging on the doorstep of your page until then, I'd love to be able to paint half as well as you... My paintings are still heavily based of my pencil-coloring ability... though not as good yet
