Description
After my recent posts, along with some past incidents, I decided to finally whip up this chart to explain some things that are likely WAY overdue.Kailani's hybridism will be explained more later on in the comic, and also in the revamped intro in the distant future, but for the mean time this should help! Her hybridsm is only a small subplot so I never thought about explaining it before. A mistake on my part, honestly. When I started the comic I was going off of my older readers who already knew about Garin and the hybrids. It doesn't help that neither Lanians OR Lanives have appeared in the comic (another thing that will be rectified in the revamp). So it's my bad people are so confused!
The two biggest mistakes people make is:
Speaking of, the third Lanivian is Zamora, who is currently in revamp hell. Her origin as a Lanivian is different than Garin or Kailani, but I'll save that for later. You can see her old design here: The Selection - page 26
I tried to include as much on here as possible while still making things concise. I included Commoners AND Royals just to show that Garin and Kailani are half Royal specifically. I made all the Ambivians duplicate designs, not switching them up/differentiating them, in order to keep confusion down. The same applies to Lanians: Both sexes can have green or tan skin, but females are more likely to be tan. Likewise Lanives can have different shades of green. I just put the average. Including every detail in-between is too much for this sheet. You'll figure that out later, hopefully, whenever I make up their species references. Which will be OOOONE DAAAAY (not soon).
Here is an OUTDATED AND INACCURATE Lanian ref sheet for a slight bit more insight, but take the information VERY LOOSELY. IT IS NOT ALL CORRECT!!
Lanian Reference Sheet: OUTDATED
Anyway, I've rambled too long! I hope you guys find this useful and that it cleared up a lot of questions! If anyone ever has questions about my species or worlds or if anything at all confuses you, don't be shy to asking me! It might help me realize a really big problem like this one!

Much better; Now I understand it more I was still confused about "Lanives" until I read sub-species, so that also cleared some stuff up. 'm also excited to see Zamora's new design
Also, you say that her hybridization is a sub-plot, yet I'm curious about it, but if the sub-plot is that interesting, then the main plot is something I could die to know more about

Thanks! I need to draw them more often. I think they're more interesting visually than my anthro races.
They are level with humans! Lanives have a bit more instinctual qualities in their behavior, as in they can act animalistic sometimes, but generally they are just like people.

Good idea ^^
I try to update once a week by doing one step of the comic once a day,
so by the end of the week I have a completed page.
It just gets a little tricky if a miss or day or two ^^'
Hopefully I'll be able to keep WW pretty regular along with do a few other projects I want to work on.

That sounds like a good plan! I def can see the stress when you skip days for sure D:
What I've found works super efficiently for me is making batches (4 pages this time as example) and doing each in a stage: sketches, ink, etc. That helps me because I get stalled on the sketch stage where I don't wanna draw certain panels. So with multiple pages I can bounce around when I get stuck. Suuuuper helpful! Then I color them backwards (furthest page to more recent) in order to motivate myself to not post anything early. It worked well last month, so I'm gonna test it out during this semester and see how it works between drawing all my crap for art college XD

See that's what I'm working towards
ThatΒ way I can still have pages available for weekly updates
even when I reach a busy period in the school year (which will happen eventually ^^').Β
I'm hoping that I'll eventually be able to update more frequently,
and get WW done faster.

I'm sure you can do it! You're super quick and efficient at stuff and always have been.
Does WW have a specific end in mind? In terms of, say, page count?
π: 0 β©: 1
stories-of-heroes In reply to AlfaFilly [2016-09-17 04:12:02 +0000 UTC]
X3 Aww thanks!
Chapter 1 is kind of my experimental chapter, as far as page count goes.
In reality WW doesn't have much of a page count for each chapter, but after this first chapter
it's looking like each chapter will be roughly 50 pages.
So I'll probbably end up making a weekly goal based on that number. Maybe 5-10 pages a week
depending on how much free time I have for the week.

Aha, I feel you! Experimental stuff is my entire comic pretty much xD And hurrah long-chapter buddies! Mine average around 64, which is minimum Graphic Novel size.
I wish you the best of luck on that! Do you have any idea how long the comic will be in total by the time it's done?

stories-of-heroes In reply to AlfaFilly [2016-10-05 04:26:50 +0000 UTC]
Experimental or not your comic is way cool ^^
Let's see...if each WW chapter is roughly 50 pages and there are 10 chapters total plus an epilogue...
I'm looking at around 500+ pages - @
I got a loooonnngggg way to go. Any idea how long your comic is going to be?
I just know i'm excited to read it X3

Ooooh my ;n; A big epic indeed! But it'll be worth it if you ever have the chance to complete it. And it'll be a wild ride before at least!
Oh jeeeez. I still need to finalize what all I'm cutting and keeping for my comic (which I'll be doing this November). But I had an estimated 12 chapters. So 700+ pages XnX But I may be able to dwindle it down. We shall see!

MCwuffles [2016-08-27 00:27:06 +0000 UTC]
This is pretty interesting. Does that mean the royal Ambivians' range of unusual color is the result of some kind of genetic manipulation?
π: 0 β©: 1
AlfaFilly In reply to MCwuffles [2016-08-27 03:04:19 +0000 UTC]
Royal coloration is mostly a result of selective breeding far back in the day. They would mate with partners with more vibrant colors and markings as they were more attractive and wanted children that were just so. This is why some royals have ridiculous patterns and colors because it was entirely intentional. Genetic manipulation is also a thing, though! Not to mention cosmetic methods like fur dying that are not out of the question either in order to appear more "exotic". A lot of royalty females will dye their hair if they weren't born with wonky two-tones.

Interesting! I particularly like the Lanives. I assume they are intelligent creatures like the Ambivians? Do they live in a different sort of society and that's why we haven't seen any, yet? I mean I know you said you'll make spieces sheets for them eventually, I'm just really interested in them. c:
π: 0 β©: 1
AlfaFilly In reply to ArtsyGoatAlan [2016-08-26 21:00:11 +0000 UTC]
Lanives are definitely intelligent, but are significantly less-so than Lanians. Probably less-so than even Ambivians, though not largely. Their skills fall into the tasks they do for the Lanians, so they're a bit more worker-bee like and aren't very refined or cultured, but like people they can be depending on their environment and how they grew up. They aren't quite like slaves as they are treated well and have payment and accommodations, but they have no ambitions outside of servitude.
The Lanives and Lanians live on a separate planet called Duganist! They definitely do live on Ambivia too, but we don't see them in the comic because they don't mingle with royalty. You see them more often around commoners. Royals get disgusted enough at Kailani, imagine their views on the base species in general!

ArtsyGoatAlan In reply to AlfaFilly [2016-08-27 18:40:20 +0000 UTC]
Oh, thats interesting! I find it kind of cool and original that the quadrupedal animal-like species is far more intelligent than the bipedal species. Typically, I believe becuase we are bipedal, most stories make the bipedal creatures the more intelligent.
So, royals tend to be a bit racist in that regaurd. Interesting, but understandable. I'm sure if we came across alien races some of us would be a bit disgusted by them due to them being different. Or, maybe racist isn't the right word if they hang out around commoners. I suppose, believing they are superior may be a better way to put it.
In any case, they are really cool looking. I may end up making a fan character of one if you don't mind. I'll probably wait for their respective species sheet, before I get carried away. haha.
π: 0 β©: 1
AlfaFilly In reply to ArtsyGoatAlan [2016-09-02 07:05:27 +0000 UTC]
Quite! Apparently that's a trend of mine, because the most intelligent species of my worlds are not quadruped. I wouldn't call them... animals, though, like I would Lanians. They are straight-up just aliens. Can't tell what they are!
Royals definitely have the tendency to be racist, usually outwardly. Commoners have racist tendencies too, roughly half-n-half, but they are more subdued. Like people, though, some aren't racist. In fact, it's a point of contention that some royals have interracial marriages which is revolting to them. In their views, it's one-thing to "put up" with the non-Ambivians, but to marry them is absurd. They definitely aren't an open-minded bunch!
Aha nah I don't care at all. I've been really inspired lately to work on sheets again, so let's hope I don't lose it when school starts back!
π: 0 β©: 1
ArtsyGoatAlan In reply to AlfaFilly [2016-09-12 16:51:58 +0000 UTC]
That's one of the best things about making alien races, I think. They can be anything, really, becuase no one knows what an 'alien' looks like and so life forms from other planets can look like anything. They may break the laws of what is 'normal/logical/realistic' for us on earth, but on a different planet who knows what is possible!
I like that. It gives them character and shows that not everything is perfect. Its more... realistic, I guess you could say. While I don't Β like and don't approve of racism, it's a real thing and so have some 'realistic' themes in your characters makes them seem, uh, more human? I don't know a better way to put that. sorry. Hopefully you get the idea of what I mean. XD
Yay! I look forward to seeing them, and making a fan character then. C:

AlfaFilly In reply to ArtsyGoatAlan [2016-09-17 02:44:49 +0000 UTC]
Yupyup! Very true! And it gives you room to fudge things alongside applying logic. Like I'm attempting to remodel Lanians to appear more dinosaur-like, specifically spinosaurus for the snout shape and such. But then, Lanians are an amphibian-like species that is not TRULY amphibian. It doesn't reflect any known earth animal, just pieces. So it gives room to play with some logical foundations! Cause that's the fun of it is seeing where your imagination can take you.
Aha, I think Ambivia as a culture is not a place anyone should approve of! Religion can be an awesome thing, but... I don't think I'd like a place where religion is literally revolved around everything you do. Add the racism on top of it and it's... not a really nice place! But it's also something humans can, unfortunately, understand and thus relate to.
I'm hoping I can whip up something nice sooner rather than later, especially for Lanians since I'm in a kick for them now. But gotta see about priorities! UGH

ArtsyGoatAlan In reply to AlfaFilly [2016-11-02 16:23:02 +0000 UTC]
I, too, think I would hate living in a place where religion defines eveything. Though, like you said, in human history there have been governments run by religion; called a Theocracy. In such a government the religious officals (pope, cardinals, etc.) get final say becuase they speak for God and what God says is the ultimate law.

AlfaFilly In reply to ArtsyGoatAlan [2016-11-10 21:06:18 +0000 UTC]
That is essentially what Ambivian society is like. There is no separation of church and it is incorporated into their lives to the point it is second nature. It varies by area on what sort of spirits are worshipped but it's always there. There is little to no escape from it.

AlfaFilly In reply to bonsha [2016-08-26 21:02:18 +0000 UTC]
Aha that's about right!!
That's the basic difference! Royals also have three tails, an eye marking, and different colored skin. And of course the general non-physical things like bloodline and wealth. But the distinguishing difference is their colorations. They SPARKLE.
