I think it's such a wonderful thing when people are kind enough to share their knowledge with others. c: Thanks for going through the trouble of making this! I got a lot from it and really appreciate it.

ok actually finished reading this now. definitely helped tons, gave me some things to think about with my own art. i do have one question though: when you say you block in things at a low resolution first, are you talking about dpi? i have a problem with some of my brushes lagging cuz of my old computer, maybe thats why?
also, its kinda scary how much i agree with some of the things you wrote at the beginning haha. like i just found it helps a lot better to practice one or two things at a time instead of trying to juggle everything at once.
thanks for sharing again, looking forward to more of your work

Thanks a ton! Really enjoyed reading your thoughts. I was wondering if you spoke about cleaning up a line drawing in your previous posts. I guess it's mostly being very patient and careful? Not to mention a lot of practice. Perhaps you can do a future tutorial on that(hint..hint )

Man thank you soo much knowledge
I have question
Besides all the studies stuff you're showing that knowing photoshop well is very handy or even necessary in image creation.
How did you approached or still approach learning photoshop techniques? Are you watching , reading tutorials, PS how to's or just experimenting with many different functions?
Do you know some good sources?
Thanks again for tutorial. Back to study i have to reach your level

Yes, knowing your tools is really useful o_ov Photoshop is an easy software though, for me it was just learning by doing. Experiment and play around, and just read whatever you find about it, and after a while you'll get a pretty strong idea of how it works :]

Oh c'mon... It's just me who don't ever get the idea of paiting with textures? Even reading the whole tutorial (which was really helpful, danke! ) I still don't understood how you painted the ground without the messed look that we always got by using brush with textures.
I've thought of it might be cause the colors I chose (trying not to be something too contrasted) or avoiding literally painting with textures, putting it only on the final.
Both didn't work for me.

algenpfleger In reply to GisAlmeida [2011-04-19 15:02:35 +0000 UTC]
You just have to be more careful! Most of that ground is done with soooooft pressure. Try to do a couple of photo studies and focus on finding ways to replicate textures you see. Then bring it into your normal workflow. Works!

GisAlmeida In reply to algenpfleger [2011-04-19 15:07:48 +0000 UTC]
It has nothing to do with values? I mean, you first have to model the value with a normal brush and then add the soft textures? Because sometimes when I use a darker or a lighter texture too much it kinda change the bulk of it...

algenpfleger In reply to GisAlmeida [2011-04-19 15:11:27 +0000 UTC]
Oh of course it does, everything has to do with values. And yes, modeling the actual form first is a good idea, just like you paint the big picture first before you go into detail! OvOb You really have to play around with this a bit, it gets way easier to understand through trial&error o_o/

I honestly, CAN'T UNDERSTAND how you guys work on everything at the same time? for me it's basically Illogic, how to keep focuss on everything... anyway, MAD SKILLS! definitly a fav from me!

algenpfleger In reply to Mr-Goblin [2011-04-19 14:45:54 +0000 UTC]
Well, you're still doing one brushstroke at a time But I think the difficulty there is just finding a balance between actually rendering out things, instead of just jumping all over the place and not getting to do anything really, and on the other hand losing sight of the overall image by zooming in too much and focusing too much on single elements. So you're not really working on everything at the same time, you're just thinking of both the entire image and the separate elements :] If that makes any sense.

you know what I like about you is, besides being a truly talented artist, you're also generous with your thoughts hence the great number of inspired watchers that you have. i hope you continue being like this despite the fact that some irritating bitter haters are proving you wrong.

Hey, thanks! Yeah I guess I can share my brushset too, although I'm kinda against it because the valuing of things that are essentially meaningless tools is already distorted enough in the online community, and since there's already a ton of awesome brushes available I'm kinda hesitant to draw even more focus away from the things that are really important, like foundation and all that ΓΆ_ΓΆ
