what kind of paper do you use ?

yes, it does matter when it comes to watercolors 
i usually use a thick artists watercolor-paper. its resistant to water so it doesn't get wavy when it gets wet (at least not as much as other kinds of paper). plus, the colors stay quite clear even with many layers of paint.
but there are really many different kinds of watercolor-paper available; some rough, some smooth, some tinted, etc. so you'd have to experiment, experiment
