Yes, being afraid of the dark is a legitimate thing. In this piece, I was trying to signify how someone with Nyctophobia might feel trapped by the dark, like it's actually closing them off from their surroundings.

I actually have a character who's terrified of the dark because of a traumatic experience along with PTSD-like characteristics.

Oh man, my boyfriend has a bad case of this. And silence. It's sad really, it's hard for him to fall asleep... 
But this piece is, again, wonderful. I love the outline you can see of her hair, and how naked she is, because it just adds to how totally helpless she is to the dark.

I'm not scared of silence, though due to a wierd mental process, I do find it difficult to think in. I have to listen to music whenever I'm trying to concentrate on something.
This picture originally ended right below the top of her shoulder, but I extended it down last minute.
