Kind of a neat idea, though the ocean lines are just way too distracting. Meanwhile, land features really take a backseat--a couple of trees and hills here and there, etc.

Much of the story involves the water of the world so I wanted to emphasis it.

Wow, well done, though the water does draw attention from the land

The swirlies are for aesthetic purposes only. It's not designed for optimal readability. So I'm okay with it drawing attention from the land.

I'd buy the book just for this map. The water do grab a whole lot more attention 'cos of the heavy line weight that also overlay each other to give more sense of space than the land tho. It's hard to focus on the land. Maybe if the land is tinted by a color it'll balance out.

Nice work!
I like the heraldry on the border and the castles/etc on the map.
Which civilization's cartography did you research for this?

Thanks
I was largely inspired by the Fra Mauro map and some of Martin Waldseemuller's maps. But I looked at maps from all over the place really.

The swirling effect on the bodies of water is hypnotic. I'm absolutely awestruck.
