Description last month i bought an artbook 'Shoji Kawamori design works' which an artbook i have long waited for, previously i did have an another 'Shoji Kawamori' artbook on macross design, this is the first time all his works are compile into one thick book, i'm so happy about the book which included the compile design work of his famous macross, Aquarions, armored core, Eureke 7, cyber fomula and a lot of other work. just for some info on who is shoji kawamori. he is the creator of the original macross, macross plus, seven and zero, other famous work he did was armored core (PS2), cyber fomula, some minor work on gundam stardust memory, Escafloner, nd his most recent Aquarions and Eureke 7.

I have always said my mecha style is very much influenced by Shoji Kawamori's style, probably i grew up with cartoons like macross. since then i have been a avid fan of any mecha, and i drew more mecha art than any art since young roughly since school days i have been drawing mecha. but i did stop doing mecha art for quite sometime since 2004. only few months ago i did try to draw some mecha and it seems i still haven't lose my touch yet but i still need to work harder to improve my mecha art.

For the moment i have been doing my LionKing anthro artwork, watching 'Eureka 7' and Zoids Genesis' anime since there are not much thing to watch.

I have always wanted to be a mecha designer more than being an animator but sadly Malaysia are not yet ready for this type of work. taking up 3D is something i should since i have such passion for mecha, oh ya here is one crappy 3D i did trying out 3D max for the first time [link]

Hmmm, the style is reminiscent of Armored core. I like em, the details, the mecha designs and the shading. quite some work you got there.

just how much armored core does that book contain because i really love armored core and i saw that book in the bookstore and im planning to buy it, but its a bit pricey. is it worth it?

atleast 20 pages of amored core sketchs, rengeing from 1 to nexus, mostly are AC02 and 03. did saw the official art book but it has only 2-3 pages of sketches, less skeches more on japanes text.

Excellent work man!! I have always been a big fan of Macross and Armored Core myself!! Great designs and details! Why the giant watermark though.. it distracts and takes aways from the greatness of the mecha designs.. Your 3ds mech is not too bad. I think with a little more time you'll blow most of us out of the water! Well anyway.. good luck to you!

i've been doing good, pal. Yeah, I decided to give DA a break...I don't know if I'll come back or not, but I just wanted to say hi to my pals that I've watched when I was really active. I am almost done with school though so I am getting my demo reel finished so I can get a job in the animation industry here in California. Life has been quite busy, but I haven't stopped from drawing, of course I haven't! c:

Man, your mecha art is SOOO beyond ANYTHING I could ever do! I'm always amazed how you can build an entire machine that look funcitonal with such ease. I'd barely be able to draw the head without making it look like a cardboard box! XD

Her'es hoping that one day you get to design those mechas of yours! Woots to that! XD

haha, always a mecha head i am, i wish to be a mecha designer more than a animator, or even better a mecha animator, i will be trying out some 2D mecha animation sometimes around this year, i hope i can pull it off, my art group will be doing a small animation promo for the group and i will be animating my own mecha for my part. stay tune for it

Excellent work....as your Mecha art improves and becomes well known...maybe you will be the catalyst for the rise of Mecha popularity in Malaysia...it has to start somewhere with someone....or you could move to Japan

Sebbythefreak [2006-05-11 03:25:37 +0000 UTC]

Thy are really awesomely drawn... but they are also extremely generic =/

The fact that all 3 of them are basically the same vehicule with only little aestethical differences doesn't really help make them stand out... and it really looks like armored core, indeed. (sidenote: Kawamori only worked on the ps2 versions? He wasnt on the designs of the earlier psx AC?)

Anyway, they are uber pictures, awesome details, extremely classic style that you litterally perfected, but it would have been really better if the robots were different from each other, at least.

ok, i haven't seen any of PSX ACs yet, but i have already enjoy his work already, so far AC was my fav work from him then macross

Sebbythefreak In reply to alphaleo14 [2006-05-12 18:17:53 +0000 UTC]

You never seen the original ACs O_o
Well, it's basically the same thing as AC3, except with crappy graphics. (Well, it was totally awesome when the game went out and I we were all "omgwtf awesome" on the intro cinematic back then... but it grew old really fast)

Yeah, I noticed you liked the AC style since these 3 mechas have almost recognizeable modules xD I love AC myself.

Nice work! I like the way you put a lot of weight and power into the designs and how they feel very original. I think the one on the left is my favourite. Excellent work! Very well done!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

alphaleo14 In reply to Gunmetalblack [2006-05-12 14:35:29 +0000 UTC]

ha ha, the one on the left was actually a kill time drawing i did in the office while doing some boring project. originally i wanted to draw the same mech in different weapons variation, that's why u notice the one on the center and the right one looks the same, the third one i originally planned on the left but somehow i lose heart working on this drawing, so i photoshop in the left one from another piece of drawing

AC eh? did he happen to work on the designs of the Disorder units from Armored Core 2?
And yes, he's a mecha god. His design style is amazingly varied, and let's face it, even his sketchy work is awesome.

Anyway, those are incredible sketches, you definitely captured the AC look incredibly well.

As for that model, it's actually pretty good. it could use a little work, and maybe thinning the torso out a tad, but after that it's very good, plus it's rather unique. (head choice reminds me of the Assault Suits series.)

as far as i know he worked on most of the armored core design. so far i find armored core is his most detail work.

Actually, I was wondering if you can help me out here. do you happen to know whether he did any work on the Assault Suits series? the cover artwork for all the games seemed abit like Shoji's work.

i started playing AC 3, later i try AC 2 and find it sucks, and gave up at the beginning, then i'm too lazy to play AC nexus because i too lazy to collect all my funds from scartch and found out some of the weopons function much more different form the original, i gave it up, as for AC4 i still waiting for the english version
