Description The first actual illustration I managed to finish.

I really don't have much to say about it, I worked with a reference picture for the water, and that's also where the colour palette for this one came from. It's a bit more muted than my normal pieces. But not everything can be bright and colourful.

Wow, this is great! The draping of the fabric is just perfect - gives the feel that she may have swum to that rock, or maybe climbed out of the water...The image makes me want to hear her story, and I feel like that's one of the marks of great illustration.

Thank you very much! I didn't really have a story in mind when I made it, but I'm still glad it seems to tell one

It's like looking at a old painting from years passed. She looks like that mystical lady of the lake, a spirit of some kind who sings to all who pass through her on their way.

Thank you. That's a really cool idea. I didn't really have a concept in mind for the picture, but I love your interpretation!

You captured the gown and water texture very realistically.

Thank you. It really pays off to use reference for once.

One day, we hope to be able to do it without reference.

That would be nice, but I don't think I'll ever really be as good without reference as I am with one.

Anything you feel comfortable making without reference?

I feel relatively confident drawing humans and clothing, at least in a stylised manner. Still, I always notice that using reference improves the result, even if I kind of know what I'm doing.
