Author's Note: I joined a new server called The Library Isles and when I mentioned my anthro-mouse story, A Mouse in the Castle, some people expressed interest in reading it. I decided I wanted to edit and expand the story a little bit before I shared it and, welp, this is the overdue first installment! Some of the original chapters are just going to be edited and split up to be shorter, while there's actually going to be a little new content here and there! I'm very excited to work on this, no less because this should actually be a fairly quick and easy project and I'll be able to post it to more places such as Wattpad.

As for the first chapter, I liked the way it rolled along. We get a good idea of the time period, the location, the protagonist Truscott, who may or may not be a knight in disguise. But I like his polite, courtly demeanor which he tries to hide behind the veneer of a wanderer and how you can tell very easily that he is unsettled by the power abuse that is partaking. If he is, why then, is he running away from it? All shall be answered only if ye but read on! ...when I post the next chapter that is.

Anyway, not much to say, I'm just happy with this introductory chapter and I'm excited to be working again! Oh, and like with the original story, I'll include a list of various lore notes with every author's note, just to give you some an outline of some of the worldbuilding.

- oskan: universal currency developed by the ancient Emperor Oskan
- elarn: a cow-like animal that produces milk
- Yvrene: non-binary mouse god of balance and harmony, denoted by aspects such as light, restoration versus darkness and decay.
- Crimson Coast: southern coast of the continent which is occupied by various cities and settlements which are beset by coastal raiders and pirate kings.
- Median Dominions: the lower central lands of the continent, with a rich trading culture but distant and isolated townships and cities.
